Australia is so peculiar to me. My instant reaction if I think of an Australian man is honestly someone who's as tough as nails. Years ago, hanging with some Australian nationalists, this was confirmed. I feel like it just goes with the territory, sharks in the water, deadly snakes, spiders the size of Volkswagens. @dystopian_DU I've had a totally different experience with carnivore; it made my reflux much better. I did keto for a few months first, though, and eased the non-meat foods out slowly.

Carnivore Day 7. I have had to abandon the experiment due to a nasty case of gastritis. I have an extremely touchy stomach and as I've been hospitalised a couple of times with gastritis, I have learned over the years to listen to that sort of pain and back off accordingly. At around day 2 of trying out this carnivore experiment (all meats and eggs, nothing else), I started getting acid reflux, not just after meals, but all the time. It didn't subside. By day 4 I simply could not digest any more meat (even though I was only eating when hungry and never past full) and the gag reflex was so intense I just fasted (except for a cup of broth), but of course fasting is the worst thing to do when you have too much bile. Day 5 I still couldn't get meat/fish or eggs down, so I decided to relax a bit and have a little bit of fruit, dairy and honey. That made me able to stomach some fatty pork belly in the evening, but I still had bad acid reflux and my stomach was hurting a bit. Day 6 after eating a bit of meat my stomach started really hurting and I developed proper gastritis and had a terrible night with it. Day 7, my stomach still hurts too much to even contemplate eating any form of meat, fish or eggs, so I am taking my body's very loud and clear message and backing off. The reasons I persisted so long are: a) I wanted to see if this diet would do for me what others say it does for them - boundless energy, pain relief, total clarity of mind - and was willing to push through discomfort to give it a proper go. b) I couldn't tell if my body cues were temporary and/or just psychological hurdles, or if it was really a NO. Turns out, it was a NO, my body is not coping with such an extreme change right now. I'm transitioning now to a focus on low oxalates, with HFLC to see how that feels. I'm comfortable with HFLC but have never consciously minimised oxalates at the same time. I'm open to trying carnivore again if I feel the need, but next time I would work up to it much more slowly and see how I go. If I notice any pain relief with a low oxalate approach, I will do an update here, as some of you mentioned you have similar problems and were interested in following along with my progress. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me through my first attempt at the carnivore diet, I appreciate all the moral support and advice!
