This is a clear upset spot as margins should be rather tight in these conditions, given that FAA’s serve is standout, but grassy conditions can make it a challenge on rerun for FAA. Fucsovics is a very fit player and on his best days can give trouble to anyone on tour. Unforced errors have been an issue for Felix, and that can be a problem against a player who covers the court well, can dictate with the forehand, and play a physical brand of tennis.

Reproducing that level is a tough ask, especially when players so often struggle physically in their second match after lengthy absences. It also feels like the bookmakers have reacted too strongly to Kyrgios’ opening performance, upgrading him too quickly. For me, it’s still a major question mark whether he’s capable of stringing together several high-level matches in a row. With that in mind, I’m happy to ask that question by backing a natural and very much capable grass-courter like Shimabukuro as a sizeable underdog.

Going up against a highly disciplined, relentless competitor who is currently hitting every single spot on his serve is a completely different beast. The veteran simply does not have the lateral movement or the stamina at this stage to survive extended, fast paced rallies on a slick lawn.
