After the Civil War and Reconstruction, the Republican Party was seen as the friend of the Black American. The Democratic Party was seen as the party that supported segregation and white supremacy. Blacks in both North and South voted Republican. America's Black Holocaust Museum Republicans also passed: Abolished slavery (13th Amendment) Gave Black men the right to vote (15th Amendment) Elected Black men to Congress during Reconstruction Protected Black citizens through President Grant and the Union Army Wake up, Black America.
