My thoughts are with the families of the 457 courageous and patriotic British soldiers who gave their lives in Afghanistan and who served in some of the most dangerous places in the world.  Their contribution will never be forgotten.

When I smelt the unmistakable smell of sewage whilst out canvassing today, I pulled on my trusty waders & took my testing kit to the suspicious outfall. There, I found the shocking result: off the scale levels of ammonia, meaning that raw sewage was illegally entering the river right next to people’s homes. Just an hour earlier, I had seen literally dozens of Labour Councillors from @lbbdcouncil pushing leaflets through doors, none of whom have done anything to try & stop the sewage scandal locally. And local councils have a big role to play in stopping the sewage & protecting the people in their Borough. If elected as a Green councillor in Thames View, Barking, I would walk every river in the Borough & test every suspicious outfall for sewage. I would then bring Thames Water before the council & demand a clear plan to fix every illegal outfall in years, not decades & if they refuse to do so use the council’s powers to prosecute for every single illegal sewage spill in the Borough. Sewage in our rivers is a political choice & the people of Barking & Dagenham shouldn’t have to put up with it any longer.

Will Hancock grazed the fields below the Bawsey ruins & allowed it to flood every year creating a series of large lakes. The @GaywoodRiver always ran clear its my opinion that the change of use of the fields to intensive farming has encouraged the @The_WMA to increase maintenance

Why is discharging raw sewage into any of these rivers not considered a crime @EnvAgency?

New EA figures reveal that pollution from @AnglianWater into the Gaywood is actually getting worse. In recent years CSOs discharged raw sewage into the river an average of 266 times. In 2024 this rose to 350 times. @Feargal_Sharkey @WATERSHED_i @OSennitt

This river has my heart, it has vast potential for restoration but without protection it will be money down the drain. It's history is truly incredible, traces of every archaeological period are present within its valley. #loveariver
