@JewishLanguages @yugntruf Just FYI — I worked from Jordan Kutzik's English translation and not from the original Faroese (to my great shame). Completely separately I am working on a translation from Swedish to Yiddish, but I suspect that's been done. I'll have to check...

Shkoyekh @a_a_viswanath & @yugntruf! We're pretty sure this is the first time we've seen a #Yiddish #kidlit story translated from Faroese (an Old-Norse-based language similar to #Icelandic). The original puffin tale was written & illustrated by Jenny Kjærbo.🐧🥚

Now out, a burst of cute in these dark times: my Yiddish translation of an adorable little book of a little puffin coming to terms with a new sibling's arrival, published by @yugntruf! Or get the English translation by @Thrownpeas. You can preorder here: kinderloshn.org/books/uh-oh/

Thank you @Forverts for this great review of Isaac Bashevis Singer's "Writings on Yiddish and Yiddishkayt: The War Years, 1939-1945," translated and edited by @davidscribbler and available today from the Center's imprint, White Goat Press. Read the review: forward.com/forverts-in-en…

Writer David Stromberg @davidscribbler began translating I.B. Singer's essays that he wrote using the pen name, Yitskhok Varshavski. Singer often portrayed himself as the sole guardian of the annihilated world of Polish Jewry. forward.com/forverts-in-en…

Baking and sharing food can be a source of comfort during challenging times. We cooked up today's Fun Fact by kneading together information from ANU - Museum of the Jewish People's database of Jewish family names and Alexander Beider's Dictionary of Ashkenazic Given Names.
