@Reform_Rebuild When we consider that at least 94% of prisoners have experienced trauma in their lives, I suspect this figure of 70% is much higher. Prison healthcare is grim. Appropriate mental health support is non existent. Yet society wonders why people reoffend.....? 😕

On average, people in prison have a life expectancy more than 20 years lower than the general population. While around 70% of prisoners are estimated to need mental health support, only around 10% are recorded as receiving treatment.

@Reform_Rebuild Prison Healthcare is terrible, In 2000 I was diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea I needed a CPAP machine The Prison Service wouldn't provide an escort to a hospital for me to get a machine I had to wait 15 years until I was Cat D in 2015 and collect one on day release

Listening to radio on prison crisis. Almost a whole conversation about crisis without any focus on services available in community justice which has better outcomes. Yes, it’s underfunded. Yes, our third sector are struggling but its a big part of solution Make it make sense.

Prisoners are being released early because the SNP’s HMP Barlinnie project is 9 years late and £900m over budget. Victims often aren’t even told when offenders are freed through the Victim Notification Scheme. @venetiamenzies @dundeeuni As the mum of a prisoner, birthdays and Xmas is hard. One comfort was sending a lovely card to my son..that all stopped 5 years ago because prisons don't have the technology to detect these drugs. Just another example of decades of underfunding.

@JamesTCobbler as the mother of a prisoner, I was horrified watching this. From the bottom to the top, our CJS needs completely overhauled. Does this fall within your remit? If it's left to Starmer, public hangings might make a return. That'll ease the pressures on prisons!
