@deborahbyrnefyi Can't help but feel that in other cities every bar/restaurant/hotel would open on to the laneway, it'd be paved nicely, bins hidden away, no cars, decorated with art, string lighting etc. Hell even a bunch of umbrellas have animated Anne's Lane behind Cafe en Seine

It's worth noting this was requested by Dublintown as a temporary measure so they can close the lane to re-animate it. There's no way of temporarily extinguishing right of way so we're taking the businesses word on it that they'll honour that commitment 😬

An enterprising @DubCityCouncil would increase parking charges for the day on the surrounding streets by a factor of 10 (& in the case of streets that have free weekend parking, start charging) and use the proceeds to improve the crumbling pedestrian infrastructure in the area.

This annual pain-in-the-hole for residents is going to get worse as more of the campus is completed in coming years, and parents descend on the neighbourhood in growing numbers in their Mercs and Teslas to deliver their precious little darlings to the front door of the campus.

@DubCityCouncil - bollard taken out yet again at the junction of Arbour Hill & Manor Street. The eastern section of Arbour Hill is not wide enough for two-way traffic & does not satisfy the minimum requirement a for same. Something has got to change. #Dublin #Stoneybatter

A permeability filter ala Grangegorman would solve that issue, reduce traffic down to just the odd local coming and going, and the width of the street wouldn't be a big problem then. The street would be transformed

Spotted part of the older fascia peaking out on this store on Capel Street. It'd be lovely if this shop owner were to remove the ugly, oversized fascia and restore the older, smaller one underneath, but I'm not too optimistic.

@ciarancannon @IrishCycle 25 is perfect for urban areas but i think there's a case to be made for geofencing and allowing higher speeds in rural areas. Feels perverse to be capped at 25 while being passed by cars doing 100. A common 20km rural journey would be a lot more feasible at 40 than 25

@IrishCycle Few people can cycle a bike at 25-30kmh with ease, for any considerable distance, and certainly not in a busy urban setting in their work clothes. The average speed for commuting cyclists is approx 15-20kmh and it makes sense that any electric assist wouldn’t exceed 25kmh.

@CorpChien Well, I think the various health, climate, economic and social benefits from pedestrianisation tend to dramatically outweigh the convenience of drivers getting heavy goods slightly quicker, but you're entitled to your view

@MikeBanim I do live in a city. Dublin has lots of green spaces. Delivery is fine if you can wait around for something, but frequently you need to get something without having to wait for the vagaries of someone’s delivery schedule. Disabled bay is usually just an ineffective gesture.

@CorpChien I don't have to imagine, my mum has MS. She relies on disabled bays which are obviously important. Heavy goods get delivered. It's good that you have green spaces near you. People living in cities need nice things too.
