@cbokhove @rastokke @greg_ashman Was there an urgent reason for your original vague comment, which appears to have been crafted as an invitation to readers to impute *something*? I just want receipts. How many mathematicians are doing that & what are they asserting should happen at the chalkface?

@rastokke @greg_ashman Incorrect Anna. Firstly, Greg has a tendency to impute his own 'speculations', see my timeline for quite positive comments on how you engage with the field, although imo a bit one-sided.

I wonder why mathematics professors with little or no experience in schools think they know how best to teach mathematics in schools.

@theenglishwitc1 @Miss_Snuffy 22yo daughter has a shiny maths degree, but one of her other talents us that she can write extremely well. Suppose she got to wring a few years of glory from that. Oh well. Perhaps she can learn to write less well to head off accusations of using AI.

AI detectors don’t work because they’re, uh, AI. And AI was trained with the best of texts which is why people often get accused of using AI when they just have good SPaG. It’s a mess at the moment, but students who use AI for essays will end up being exposed in exams or in their careers.

You hear this and students will rightly conclude that they would be better off using AI for their university essays. End of education! 😳

@drhingram Oh. We got caught by one taking 3-4 year-old daughter to closest neighbourhood park to try bike riding. They blurred & disappeared us at some point. Still visible from a virtual distance but we fade away if you get up that close.

Had to think about that because it requires good-enough AI almost 3 years ago, but yes it probably was. Won't just be humanities w. associated trouble, although will obviously be less for courses w. lots of traditional terminal exams in halls.

Some people will be graduating university with humanities degrees this summer who have never written an essay themselves. AI has made cheating the best option for a median level university student, says @daisychristo in her keynote at @researchEDGsy

FWIW that took a few rounds of "No, only change the colour of the flag material to white. Do not change their jacket. Do not change the pole. Do not..." w. Grok. Turned into a kind of Dr Seuss story. I do not like that GrokAI. Change the flag Not the sky

Lord Smith is right - this is naive folly given endemic test fraud in many countries, worsened by new tech, plus the huge incentive of access to British welfare and public services - already a lifetime benefit of almost £1m for some migrants. Think again. telegraph.co.uk/gift/d6c271c89…

The phrase "Banksy-slop" could rival "AI-slop".

Just contemplating the discussion around the generational gap in attitudes to freedom and to the arts. Made me have a jump of comprehension that this is completely deliberate. Generation X have mostly been shut out of the higher levels of power, and do seem to be the most cancelled (I have 100s of cases at @Freedom_in_Arts ) Gen X are the ONLY group of people who truly know, understand and can navigate the analogue, pre internet days, AND the fully digitalised age. We grew up meeting on time, at a location, on bikes, without phones or too many threats. We adapted to new tech with verve- the internet was exciting, mobile phone were immediately adopted. I remember my first email address around my first ever job. We were the future. But I think we’ve been deliberately erased because we do not fit the current agenda. We have no boomer guilt, and can not be manipulated, we have always been independent. We are not racist, homophonic or sexist. We had an incredible youth culture that was truly inclusive. And we have no patience for the indulgences of the millennials or younger. We have all wanted to help, mentor and share, but we do feel first rejected then seemingly alienated. But we are not to be messed with, although we are a small demographic. It really works to cancel us. Most of us are entrepreneurs but we are all vulnerable because we tend to be outside the system. Gen X It is time to step up and to speak out. We are the last frontline before, sadly I think something quite disturbing. I will elaborate as and when. Than you for bothering to read this far.
