Almost finished drafting trial reports ready for @theGRDC Week starting Monday in Adelaide. From Skeleton Weed control, to Day vs Night Applications of Brodal, and trace element applications. 2025 was a busy year for research at Elders Murray Bridge 🧑🌾🌾🚜
@agrobaz We used to do it just like that when we had an auger on air-cart. Now doing it into truck as tubulator on cart wasn't mixing. 1.5 rate of peat
Interested in who treats inoculant straight into seeder cart. I’ve always treated into grouper, then into cart to avoid bridging (like most). Tried some lentils today, seems ok so far 🤷♂️. Guys at boss said common in north with chickpeas.
Mucho capacity, mucho hectares per fill. Mucho less cost than a new high capacity cart. The Two bin seeder is almost ready to hit the field. Product Control and Steering with @AgLeaderTech
@JamesPreuss We converted it to Trimble rate controllers, so would need a FM-750, 1000 or newer model. We might sell ours with it though.
All the original Flexi-coil rate controllers are in place we just don't have a screen.
Has anyone ever built seeder box extensions for more capacity? Thinking cutting the top cone off and extending the height of the flat edge of the box.
Am I causing problems with fan capacity for pushing seed and fert out?
Or just buy a new seeder?
#agchat
@JamesPreuss We did it to a 2340 air cart and worked great, went from 35 up 50+Ha per fill.
It's for sale now along with the 18m ST830 if you're interested..
@PJScoff@justinbammann Left field idea Paul, fit up a water tank on the front and vary volume for what ballast is required. We’ve done it on our 8R Jd for use for spray bar under hay cutter and leave it on permanently with it empty most of the time. Filled up a bit for jobs like chaser bin etc
@CasFarmerCD Thanks Tom, we're having a go at some inversion ploughing with a JD square furrow. The small test I did suggested some weight might help.
Water is a good idea, otherwise might be safer to take spacers off for that job.
@PJScoff Bearing load can be as much as 7x no spacers. Only use the weights if you need them.
Tractors like the bigger class have the bearings further apart because of how the breaks are setup, and handle spacers better.
Possibly better to fill front tyres with water.
@GribbleRC@AndrewNixon22 And these machines are a new step, the whole class rating is crap if only based on hp and graintabk the X9 1000 is only 550hp very only 50 more than 8250
Doing some Standard Deviation Analysis on Yield Maps correlating yields to soil type in preparation for some VR maps and micro nutrient trials in 2025. @AgLeaderTech
Yield Maps for the win👍
@Ashley_Jacobs92 Similar results on vetch fallow in Yuna 2023 (not quite 6.1t) pushing 34kg/mm. How do you account for fallowed moisture in French Schultz? So many variations of French Schultz now but the theoretical 24kg ceiling won’t last long.
198mm growing season rainfall into a farm record 6.1t/ha of Calibre wheat on 50ha. A very pleasing/surprising result on below average rainfall. With a protein average of 8.7% and 0.6% screenings, there was more yield potential to gain in hindsight.
Had the pleasure of having Paerata (kiwi) and Llyr (Welshman) in the shed this week. They are preparing for the 2 stand 8hr lambs shearing record in December. Awesome blokes, awesome attitude. One run they both did 105 each! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 crazy they can go faster too!! Awesome to watch.
One of the lucky few to get an advanced copy of Dennis Voznesenski’s ‘War and Wheat’.
It’s a great little book taking you through the history of wars, government intervention and the role wheat has played.
Fascinating that we once had a go at a bio diesel industry in 1943
Our shearers both achieved personal milestones today shearing lambs.
Shore cleanly 605x June born lambs combined on day 3 of shearing.
An absolute pleasure having great lads working for us taking pride in their craft.

How long does amelioration last? Depends on the constraints and the treatment applied! Tractor breakdown led to very late sowing at the Coomy MLA demo site this year 🙈 but, topsoil inversion (Plozza) in 2022 to treat water repellence is still proving the goods!
