The insecurity and the threats posed by bandits, by God’s will, they will never succeed. Their attempt to infiltrate Kano will ultimately become their downfall. H.E Abba Kabir Yusuf, has risen firmly to the challenge, working hand-in-hand with the military and all other security agencies. Our hope now is for the public to play their part by providing vital intelligence, reporting any suspicious movement or activity wherever they notice it. This is the surest path to securing Kano and every other affected community. May Allah grant us success.

In continuation of the Urban Renewal Project to redevelop and beautify Kano metropolis led by His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, I paid a working visit today to the ongoing beautification project at Zaria Road Bridge, Naibawa. This location is one of the major gateways into Kano city, and beautifying it will ensure that everyone entering or leaving the city meets us in an environment that is clean and welcoming. This project we have started will not stop here, as our goal is to extend the beautification effort to all major roads and intersections across the entire Kano metropolis. I wish to remind the public that tree and flower planting does not have to wait for the rainy season. With dedication and proper care, trees can be planted, and the environment can be beautified at any time and in any area. May Allah bless Kano State. Dr. Dahir M. Hashim Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Kano State

His Excellency Governor Abba K. Yusuf commissioned the recently restored Gidan Palmer in government house. The historic building served as the first office of the British Colonial Residents in Kano. Gidan Palmer was constructed in 1914, shortly after Kano was formally established as a provincial capital in 1905. Designed as the first official office for the British Colonial Resident—the chief administrator overseeing the province—it was built within the expansive Government House complex in Kano City. The structure exemplifies early 20th-century colonial architecture: a single-story bungalow with verandas, arched windows, and ventilation features adapted to the Sahelian climate, using local mud-brick (tubali) reinforced with plaster. The building is named after Sir Herbert Richmond Palmer (1877–1958), a pivotal figure in Northern Nigerian colonial administration. Palmer arrived in Nigeria in 1904 as an Assistant Resident, initially stationed in Kano to manage the Katsina Division. He rose quickly, serving as full Resident of Kano Province from 1915 to 1916 before moving to Bornu Province. A barrister and advocate of Lugard’s “Indirect Rule” policy—which governed through existing native authorities like the Emir—Palmer emphasized cultural sensitivity and legal reforms. He also contributed to historical scholarship by translating the Kano Chronicle, a key Arabic manuscript chronicling Kano’s rulers from 999 CE. During his tenure, Gidan Palmer served as the nerve center for provincial administration, handling taxation, justice, and oversight of the Emirate.

Kano’s economy grew by 25% in one year from ₦12.05trn to ₦15.13trn. Lagos grew 10%, from ₦30trn to ₦33.05trn. Size still favors Lagos, but the speed favors Kano. The north’s commercial capital is fast becoming a national contender. - Dr. Tijjani Ahmad

Following some complaints presented to us, today we carried out an on-the-spot inspection of some of the areas where we are beautifying roads with trees. During the visit, we assessed their current condition and established appropriate measures to ensure their proper health and sustainability. I want to assure everyone that we will not allow these trees to wither due to lack of water, disease, or damage caused by animals or humans. At present, His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has provided modern tree watering machines that will be used to water the trees across the state. We are also putting in place measures to guarantee the protection and sustainability of this important initiative, while ensuring a healthier and greener environment throughout Kano State. We call on the good people of Kano to continue supporting us by reporting any challenges encountered and refraining from acts that may damage or undermine this environmental development effort. May Allah continue to bless our dear State, Kano. Ameen. Dr. Dahir M. Hashim Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Kano State
