'An East Anglian Landscape.' (c1971) In the early 1950s, Denis Wirth Miller settled in the Essex town of Wivenhoe - he considered the ship-building and fishing town a perfect retreat for his work and began to skillfully capture the austere, beautiful Essex flatlands on canvas.

After he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957, Albert Camus wrote a letter of thanks to his favorite childhood teacher, whom he'd never forgotten. It's beautiful.

@PompeySteph Nokes has been a firm ally, even at the expense of her own political advancement at times. She may well make a good Speaker one day.

Absolutely delighted to welcome numerous MPs to the first WANP event in Parliament yesterday, in particular the Deputy Speaker, Caroline Nokes, who was one of the first to arrive.

@Tiiyee @Mij_Europe The president is elected by Parliament, presumably he therefore derives his mandate from MPs, who would have the power to remove him.

@PerfumedDandy @Mij_Europe I mean, we all have elected presidents and elected parliaments and procedures and legislation in place to terminate their mandate in exceptional cases. Maybe in Hungary a PM has an authority based on law to fire a president, who knows. Just sounds strange to me.

@Mij_Europe Does the PM really have a mandate to depose the president? I thought the latter was elected in separate elections.

'Busy Night at the Theatre.' (1885) Jean Béraud's images of Parisian life chronicle the customs and fashions of his era with precise detail. 'When you paint scenes from everyday life, place them in their context, give them life, no matter how tired the sitter might look.'
