@uwukko I lowk thought about this, and aside from not really being able to get a loan as someone who wants to live alone, renting isn’t too terrible because I don’t have to pay for the upkeep such as fixing water leaks.

it’s scary to think that i’ll most likely never own a home and will have to rent till the day i die

@Piipperi800 Hint: Look in this path on any macOS system, regardless or whether Rosetta 2 is installed or not: /System/Volumes/Preboot/Cryptexes/OS/System/Library/dyld/ The files with x86_64 in the name are the Intel binaries. On my system it's 2.1GB of pure Intel code. On every AS Mac.

Rosetta 2 requires almost the entire OS to have Intel support. That's how it works. Everything that isn't a kernel driver runs as Intel code when you use it. When macOS fully drops Intel support, Rosetta 2 stops working. That's why they're doing this.

@Lina_Hoshino Because Rosetta is literally there to translate the x86 code to ARM. It’s not deeper than that.

@Lina_Hoshino I mean they can still drop Universal Binaries and compile most OS apps and such in Apple only too, which are a part of the OS. They defo won’t be compiling the whole OS for Intel, there’s just no point

The efficiency of Apple Silicon is insane. I have Final Cut Pro with 4K footage, five safari tabs, notes, and messages open and it’s not even breaking a sweat (2021 M1 Pro) I know it’s not the most intensive load ever but still so impressive how smooth it is

@mmdman886 @glimmerfr And because of the raw power difference I don’t know how much difference there is between the two when it comes to AI. The Switch 2 technically has more VRAM available to it, and it does have some ways to accelerate AI stuff with Tensor cores, but 1050 Ti has a bit more raw power

@mmdman886 @glimmerfr Well yes and no. VRAM obviously isn’t the only thing, I mean a GTX 1050 Ti still could and likely has better rasterization performance than the Tegra T239 (as we have no proper way to really compare the two head to head).

why are people acting like $450 is overpriced for the switch 2

@mmdman886 @glimmerfr If your RAM sticks are blue screening then there’s certainly something very wrong. Not really about handling RAM usage, the sticks themselves are bad or there’s something wrong with the RAM controller or mobo.

@Piipperi800 @glimmerfr Simply put the other day i was getting blue screens while using them. Because there used ram sticks i was given . Im only keeping them till I replace them. Do I really need any other reason. They cant handle ram usage so im using my older ones. Simple as that.

@Piipperi800 @glimmerfr I won't deny the switch2 in theory could train llm models. Tho you gotta consider my pc specs vs the switch2. Considering what im able to do on a $400 rigs is already impressive enough with 1/3 the specs of the switch2.

@mmdman886 @glimmerfr I mean very hard to ”prove” you wrong since Switch 2 is a game console so you can’t train LLMs on it really. But if one could, I think it would actually be faster than your PC due to newer GPU. Hopefully the Tegra T239 becomes available in a PC so it can be tested properly.

@mmdman886 @glimmerfr what are you even talking about 1. windows is an operating system, arm is a cpu architecture. They are two entirely different things. 2. That’s like a game from ps2 era, a modern day microwave can probably run that at 144fps
