The enduring tragedy of DOGE is that this is exactly the sort of thing DOGE could have helped avoid. The bulk of government's involvement with air travel (screening, ATC, most infrastructure) should be (and could have been) privatized and insulated from government funding drama.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

I would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse that is negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans at airports throughout the country

Almost two weeks later and you still won't say how much this will increase property taxes. If giving the unions retroactive pension increases is justified, why not tell people what it will cost and let them decide if it's worth the tax hike?

Fixing Tier 6 is about equity, fairness and ensuring we can recruit and retain the best workforce to serve our community. Let’s continue reforming Tier 6 in the 2026-2027 State Budget. @NYSAFLCIO @nysut @csearegion6 #CSEALocal828 @RGVALF_AFLCIO #FixTier6

NYC for years has been spending more than it takes in and the rating agencies are noticing. This situation will get worse if Albany rolls back the 2009 and 2012 pension reforms, which would immediately slam NYC taxpayers with massive costs and blow up Mayor Mamdani's budget.
Office of New York City Comptroller Mark Levine@NYCComptroller

Three credit rating agencies have now changed NYC’s outlook from stable to negative. What does that mean?

Another "pro-taxpayer" NYS lawmaker repeating union talking points (and even cribbing their art theme!) without saying (or knowing) how much the proposed giveaway would drive up property taxes. @davidmckay415 @NYS_AM @GroverNorquist

New York is facing serious workforce shortages across public service. Fixing Tier 6 is an important step toward recruiting and retaining teachers, nurses, correction officers, law enforcement and the workers who keep our communities running. @NYSUT @pefproud @nysaflcio

Only 11 percent of NJ construction workers belong to a union. Insisting on union labor makes pols' alleged focus on "cheaper, cleaner power" less credible. unionstats.com/state/htm/stat…
Governor Mikie Sherrill@GovSherrillNJ

I will always fight for workers, and for the unions that built this state and that are rebuilding it for the future now. Working together with @IBEW, we have a chance to massively expand cheaper, cleaner power and build a new energy arsenal in New Jersey – lowering costs and creating thousands of good-paying union jobs.

Bottom line: Hochul wants CLCPA fixes to avoid further cost jumps and bans. But it won't reverse past electric bills increases or reliability problems. ‼️These are serious problems NY lawmakers should have been tracking and debating, not counting on Hochul to save them from.‼️

The worst element of CLCPA was the uncertainty it created. Unless Hochul paves a clear path for replacement power plants to get built and permitted, emissions will remain higher than necessary and grid reliability will remain under threat.

Gov. Hochul needs to tackle 3 big problems caused/exacerbated by NY's climate law: 1. threats to grid reliability 2. electric bills jumps 3. looming 'carbon taxes' This morning she announced a plan that will stave off #3. But that leaves #1 and #2... 🧵 empirereportnewyork.com/climate-action…
