By routing through Pakistan his 15-point “peace” plan to end the war that he started against Iran, Trump has made that country’s army chief an indispensable intermediary. Field Marshal Asim Munir’s emergence as Washington’s channel to Tehran not only underscores Pakistan’s geopolitical relevance to Washington, but also fits with Trump’s earlier description of Munir as his “favorite field marshal.” For New Delhi, the optics are galling. India bears the brunt of the economic fallout from a war launched by its two principal strategic partners, the U.S. and Israel. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively disrupted and Indian shipments exposed to risk, New Delhi is both stakeholder and victim. Yet, in a stark inversion of roles, it is not India but Pakistan (which has long used its nuclear-weapons shield to export terrorism) that is Washington’s diplomatic conduit. This explains Trump’s phone call. The language of keeping India “in the loop” is just reassurance — a way to soften the blow, not change the reality. Because the reality is this: When it mattered, Trump chose Pakistan as the conduit, and is now trying to make sure Modi doesn’t take it personally. This is just the latest occasion when Trump has sought to undermine his “very good friend” Modi.

But the fact is Iran was already negotiating an end to its nuke weapons program and was going far beyond expectations; the Strait of Hormuz was OPEN before the war started; the missile program was an issue and why would Iran agree to giving up its most potent non-nuke capability to defend itself. As an Indian, I feel that we have added one more trophy to our list, but honestly, this trophy is not giving me even 1% of the satisfaction and happiness that previous WCs or CTs gave me. This tournament started very well with competitive pitches, but after we lost vs SA, all the pitches seemed to be doctored and turned into highways. If we are hosting a bilateral series, then the home team has every right to prepare whatever pitches they want, but this is an ICC tournament and the pitches should be prepared under the ICC’s influence, not the BCCI’s. This feels unfair and this trophy will never give me the same satisfaction as the ones we won in 2024, 2025 or earlier.

Jay Shah; son of Home Minister Amit Shah, widely considered the 2nd most powerful man in India; left the BCCI Secretary post the moment he became ICC Chairman. A man directly connected to the ruling government now runs the WORLD governing body of cricket. And nobody in Indian media dares say it out loud: this is the single biggest conflict of interest in the history of sport. Under his watch: ➡️ Mustafizur Rahman was dumped from KKR; not for bad performance, but because India-Bangladesh relations soured. A player’s LIVELIHOOD destroyed for political signalling. ➡️ India refused to play Pakistan in Pakistan. ICC bent. Hybrid model forced. Then Bangladesh dared ask for the SAME treatment for T20 WC matches in India, and suddenly the ICC threatened THEM with warnings. One rule for India.
