The people bashing Lewis for getting bullied by Charles and Oscar don't know what they are saying. Lewis pushed Oscar close to the wall, if he defended harder they would have crashed. Charles is his teammate, he cant be too aggressive with him.

@FormulaPace This season is reminding me of 2007 almost. Young inexperienced driver expected to play second fiddle to more experienced teammate but ends up exceeding expectations. You can tell by his radio comms George is getting frustrated and sees kimi as a big threat now.

Kimi may have been fortunate with the SC timing, but his pace afterwards so was ridiculous that he may have taken the win anyway. Even in the first stint once Leclerc pitted and he got clear air he was putting in some seriously quick times that I think his pace would’ve been good enough to get the job done.

@shanethecnfsr George this race reminded me of Alonso in 2007. Hes starting to see kimi as a real threat now. I think kimi has caught his of guard so far, as lewis did alonso. I still rate George he is a top driver. He needs to reset expectations, he's not going to dogwalk kimi.

@CL16_inside the chassis regs are great but its overshadowed by the battery management crap. both drivers were told to avoid early throttle in different sections of the track, its sad really

Someone needs to explain to me how anyone could have approved the qualifying system with these cars. The new regs are insane for the race but DISASTROUS IN QUALIFYING. Now, you can’t push to the absolute limit, even though the main goal of quali is to give your all and sometimes go beyond the limit. It’s frustrating because it’s like robots are driving the cars in qualifying. F1 needs to do something about this, it’s just not acceptable. #F1 #JapaneseGP 🇯🇵

@the_zb_ Charles and Lewis battle was proper hard but fair racing. Wasn't just boost flybys. Was great to watch. Turbulent air isnt nearly as bad as last year which is a positive. I think the racing is better this year, but quali has lost some magic.

I wound up deciding to not watch the race live, as I was fairly sure the running order would be the finishing order apart from reliability quirks, with a bunch of yo-yo in between. A few swaps of the Ferraris, and various swaps back and forth up the field, with some broken cars scattered in between a short lived field mixup at the SC. In a quick review, that looks to be the case. I’d say that SC saved it from being a 40+ second gap for Mercedes. Good for Lewis finally getting that first podium, and good for Kimi on a first win. Bluntly, Kimi needed a race like that where he could just drive from the lead and focus on being quick, because his W2W ability is an utter liability. As the regs mature, you’ll see a lot more Noah’s Ark 2x2 team finishes, I think. I’ll probably go back and rewatch a bit later. Anything pressing that I missed?

The irony of F1’s ‘green engines’: All race cars combined over a season: ~150 tonnes CO₂. F1’s total footprint from flying cargo around the world: ~250,000+ tonnes. Even if fuel consumption tripled using V12s, that’s still <1% from the engines. But sure, let’s nerf the engines.
