The Terence Tao episode. We begin with the absolutely ingenious and surprising way in which Kepler discovered the laws of planetary motion. People sometimes say that AI will make especially fast progress at scientific discovery because of tight verification loops. But the story of how we discovered the shape of our solar system shows how the verification loop for correct ideas can be decades (or even millennia) long. During this time, what we know today as the better theory can often actually make worse predictions (Copernicus's model of circular orbits around the sun was actually less accurate than Ptolemy's geocentric model). And the reasons it survives this epistemic hell is some mixture of judgment and heuristics that we don’t even understand well enough to actually articulate, much less codify into an RL loop. Hope you enjoy! 0:00:00 – Kepler was a high temperature LLM 0:11:44 – How would we know if there’s a new unifying concept within heaps of AI slop? 0:26:10 – The deductive overhang 0:30:31 – Selection bias in reported AI discoveries 0:46:43 – AI makes papers richer and broader, but not deeper 0:53:00 – If AI solves a problem, can humans get understanding out of it? 0:59:20 – We need a semi-formal language for the way that scientists actually talk to each other 1:09:48 – How Terry uses his time 1:17:05 – Human-AI hybrids will dominate math for a lot longer Look up Dwarkesh Podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, or Spotify.

My impression is that Buddhism is more common among experienced Bay Area tech founders than the US population. By experienced I mean those who've been at it for years, not just starting Is this true (please vote only if you know 10+ such founders)? If true, why?

These are the top things Claude users wanted from AI Meanwhile a lot of AI companies’ messaging focuses on the things at the bottom of this list: creativity, learning, entrepreneurship, societal transformation ie, things tech people care a lot about

We invited Claude users to share how they use AI, what they dream it could make possible, and what they fear it might do. Nearly 81,000 people responded in one week—the largest qualitative study of its kind. Read more: anthropic.com/features/81k-i…

This chart has been bothering me for a while. Why, with all the new methods we have to build startups, have failure rates stayed the same? So I wrote about it

I had the pleasure of being there for this moment. The conversations between minds of this caliber during one of the most revolutionary times was a moment i will never forget. both @karpathy and jensen have the highest information density in their words of anyone i’ve met.

Woke up after 8 hours of glorious sleep, pulled the ear plugs out of my ears, made coffee, then read, prayed, and meditated on my life and the day ahead. Hopped on X to realize I'm a total loser.

They said photography wasn’t art. They said cinema wasn’t art. They said video games weren’t art. Now they say AI arts/digital art isn’t art. I’ve spent over a decade with my studio team turning millions of data points into living, breathing artwork experiences ethically — at MoMA, at the Guggenheim, at the Venice Biennale. Not because a machine told me what to create, but because I had a vision that no traditional tool could realize. Denying all AI technologies as an artistic medium doesn’t protect art. It limits it. The artists who embrace new tools don’t replace the old masters — they join them. Art is not defined by the brush. It’s defined by the intention, the emotion, and the courage to see the world differently.

A lot has been said about roll-ups. But when done right, there is something special about holding company models. A model "dependent on the quality of its latest addition because of the way it will dictate the quality of future additions."
