@VaDOT I was literally just harassed by your “security” at the Jamestown ferry terminal. Completely unprofessional men who need supervision. As a milspouse of over 16 years I am familiar with vehicle searches and this was not it. #harassment I’d love to speak to someone…

School Administrators must learn to teach kids how to read. If you don't know it, and won't learn it, how on Earth can you lead it. Yes, that also means central office staff.

Yep! You read that right…1963!! This quote is nearly 60 years old, yet not much has changed for those of us with #dyslexia. Dyslexia is often referred to as an invisible disability but isn’t it about time we were ‘seen’ by policymakers, governments and universities? #itstime

Both ARE true: 1-Decoding instruction must urgently change to match research. 2-Other critical skills are necessary to be a proficient reader. BUT you can't do 2 without 1. You can’t love reading or build knowledge from reading when you literally can’t read the words. 1/4

@mrschristie_ We *did* take him to San Diego a bunch of times, where we literally camped on the sand, but living 2 years in the Mojave really messed with his perception of Cali! 🤷🏽‍♀️

Love our veteran’s wall at school! Stars for staff relatives, stripes for students. 4th graders put on an incredible performance that left everyone teary eyed - especially this mama who is solo for a full year while her love serves in the Middle East. ♥️

This part of the latest @ehanford #soldastory podcast really hit hard. The kids in affluent neighborhoods weren’t getting better instruction, their families were just able to afford tutors to teach their kids to read. Reading became a privilege. @LucyCalkins sold us a story.

Don’t be so quick to purchase the new curriculums who have the SoR label. Advice from Dr. Mark Seidenberg.…”Invest the money in more direct support for teachers and students, such as coaches, reading specialists, tutors in the classroom, and professional development.”

Wrote about the NAEP test scores that everyone’s freaking out about and why they’re… actually not all that bad? But how that doesn’t really matter because what education politics is today is that someone slices up a data set and says whatever they want newyorker.com/news/our-colum…
