This video frustrates me because you can clearly see David Corenswet was born to play Superman. He had all the potential... only to be directed into a version that mistakes empathy for yelling, outbursts, and forced quirky moments.

You can see Corenswets take on Clark Was vastly different (and better imo) in his screen test. Clearly a more calm & collected Clark Kent reminiscent of reeves, routh, & cavills previous portrayals. Much like your example You can see Gunns fingerprints all over it in the finished product. From the screaming dialogue to the goofy perm. It’s definitely NOT what corenswet had in mind.

"If you don't like this scene, you don't understand storytelling." Has to be one of the laziest defenses in film discourse. People can understand what a scene is trying to do and still think it failed. 🤷‍♂️

If you don’t understand why this scene was the culmination of Superman’s arc, you don’t understand storytelling. If you don’t understand why James Gunn instructed David in the way he did, you don’t understand directing.

@RealAtlasX Plus Superman being human should have been shown not told. He wasn't Clark Kent in the whole run time in fact he didn't do any reporting in the whole movie that showed him being normal.

@RealAtlasX I think Gunn preferred the main male leads to be more emotionally expressive and say exactly what they are thinking. Which is why it comes off weird. Superman wouldn’t justify himself like this, his ideals yes. And Lex is too self aware. Admitting his envy feels very off.
