Holy shit. Wow. This is HANDS DOWN the best take I’ve heard. If there is one video you listen to today it’s this one. Every single word of this and it’s a huge “f*ck you” to @antonioguterres for propping up the barbaric terrorist Islamic Regime in Iran. Must be shared everywhere in my opinion. Unfortunately I have no idea who this young British woman is to credit her, if you know who it is feel free to tag below.

Ed Crane, cofounder of the Cato Institute in 1977, died on Feb. 10. Yesterday, Cato posted brief tributes from several of Ed's long-standing colleagues, including me. bit.ly/3MF0xJ8 Ed was a masterful organizer, steeped in libertarianism, and inspired by America’s founding principles. Cato is his legacy.

See my brief critique of this piece in the context of an Inst. for Free Speech symposium on Buckley v. Valeo at 50. @DuncanHosie's real target is Marbury v. Madison. He's a post-New Deal zealot who would democratize a Constitution that protects his speech. bit.ly/4ti14RK

The increasing divide between Congress and the Supreme Court raises critical questions about our democratic system. How can we foster a responsive government in this landscape? Insightful thoughts from @DuncanHosie, SLS ConLaw Fellow, in @TheAtlantic. brnw.ch/21wZ4VS

Been away from X for a bit, but last night I saw Brad Smith's post lauding my piece in the Buckley v. Valeo at 50 symposium his Inst. for Free Speech recently hosted. Rereading my piece this morning, not bad! See esp. my take on a Stanford/Atlantic chap bit.ly/4ti14RK.

"James L. Buckley: The Man & His Principles" is the 9th essay in @InstFreeSpeech series on 50th anniversary of Buckley v. Valeo, the most important campaign case ever before the Supreme Court. It's from @Roger_Pilon, founding publisher of the Cato Supreme Court Review. ifs.org/blog/james-l-b…. "Jim noted that what they [he & fellow plaintiffs suing to block the law] had in common was that they were all outsiders... Just to get their campaigns started—to say nothing of the country’s need for healthy political competition—outside candidates needed not only money but big money, especially from major donors, precisely what campaign finance “reform” denied them. . . ." In addition to a great contribution to understanding the Buckley decision and its important, Roger's piece is a warm tribute to Jim Buckley, the man.

Brad, Thank you for those kind words, That was a great symposium that you and David Keating put together to mark the 50th anniversary of Buckley V. Valeo, and good of Eugene Volokh to promote it at his Reason blog. Your own summation hit all the right spots. Well done!

My wife Juliana has a nice piece this morning at Civitas, "A National Day of Gratitude," drawing on her first Thanksgiving in America after her family had left communist Romania some six decades ago: bit.ly/4837eg2

I enjoyed this exchange with @Cato’s legendary Constitutional law scholar @Roger_Pilon — on why I believe the American system will prevail in 21st-century competition with China.

@allylabyy Long-overdue response (been writing). It's never too late, but the longer the demographic shifts go on--tax-payers leaving, tax-takers staying--the more difficult it gets to reverse course. After all, we can't all be on welfare.

@Roger_Pilon That’s an interesting point! Do you think those states can turn things around, or is it already too late for places like Illinois and New York?

Demographic shifts—people voting with their feet—will lead eventually to a death spiral in the losing states. Tax payers leave; tax takers remain. Unless the feds bail those losing states out. Watch Illinois, NY, etc.
Ron DeSantis@RonDeSantis

New Jersey would be very competitive politically if all the Republicans who moved to FL from NJ since I‘ve been governor were still voting in New Jersey. Bad leftist policies drive out center/right voters and leave the remaining electorate even more left.
