@wmbandy Very well said. It’s true young men learn most from what they see. Do you think we’re starting to see a real shift back toward respect and accountability?

It comes down to us older men teaching our younger men the right way through example and instruction. There’s consequences out there that people haven’t seen in about a generation, but they’re real. Better to let them know now before life lets them know the hard way. Great job refs! Great job to the first team for doing the redo instead of being butthurt that their hands weren’t shaken the first time. And great job to the team for being coachable enough to receive correction and acting on it. Maybe a generation of respect is coming again.

@Roger_Pilon That’s an interesting point! Do you think those states can turn things around, or is it already too late for places like Illinois and New York?

Demographic shifts—people voting with their feet—will lead eventually to a death spiral in the losing states. Tax payers leave; tax takers remain. Unless the feds bail those losing states out. Watch Illinois, NY, etc.

@KJSAcct That’s a valid concern the carryforward buildup could definitely become tricky with the phaseout in play. Have you seen any workable planning strategies to offset that yet?

@allylabyy That's what I'm trying to crowdsource ideas on. I'm concerned because I see this carry forward building now that we know TCJA is not expiring, and I want to make sure this is not wasted effort, especially with the salt limit increasing subject to phase out

Now that OBBBA has kept a SALT limit, PTET looks to be sticking around. The #California #PTET credit only has a 5yr carryforward. How are you strategizing for this with middle-income taxpayers with kids whose exemption credits make for very low CA tax liability #TaxTwitter?

@jimgunnyea Ah, so no W 2 layout change yet but new codes coming that’ll be fun for payroll teams 😅 Did they give any hints on what the new codes might look like?

...the deductions only apply to half-time pay rather than full overtime pay. It mentions that the IRS will not be making changes to the W-2 for tax year 2025, but there is an expectation for new box 12 codes to be implemented. Thomson Reuters seminar...
