In college, I learned that European and American colonies in the countries surrounding Japan suffocated Japanese access to resources, which forced Japan into expansionism. This eventually led to the attack on Pearl Harbor during a time of American isolationism, resulting in outrage that catapulted America into a hyper-aggressive war machine. It culminated in the development of nuclear bombs that were necessarily used on two Japanese cities in an effort to stop the formidable Japanese aggression and end the Pacific War.

@akevittnvg The Japanese were a strong, effective, and formidable adversary during WW2. They successfully sank seven US aircraft carriers.

The Bald Eagle is the national bird of the United States. Benjamin Franklin famously criticized it as a national symbol in a 1784 letter to his daughter, calling it a bird of "bad moral character" that steals food and is a "rank coward". He preferred the wild turkey, which he deemed a "respectable," courageous, and truly native American bird, though he never formally proposed it for the Great Seal. There is a cool webcam of nesting Bald Eagles in Big Bear Lake in Southern California you might enjoy: youtube.com/live/B4-L2nfGc…

@Nimbux_1 @arnoklarsfeld He was the weapons systems officer (WSO) and it’s not unusual for an O5 to perform these kinds of missions.

@jee_vacation @klausen_ru71024 @WarMonitor3 @grok Even though Grok just confirmed that you’re wrong about abandoning containment of Russia, I do agree with you that the USA should leave Germany. Everybody wants the U.S. gone, so we should leave.

@SB30Bio @klausen_ru71024 @WarMonitor3 Main logistics hub is Germany which you still have access to. But yeah I don’t think you should have access as you’ve abandoned NATO purpose of containment of Russia.

Artemis II has reached its maximum distance from Earth. On the far side of the Moon, 252,756 miles away, Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy have now traveled farther from Earth than any humans in history and now begin their journey home. Before they left, they said they hoped this mission would be forgotten, but it will be remembered as the moment people started to believe that America can once again do the near-impossible and change the world. Congratulations to this incredible crew and the entire NASA team, our international and commercial partners, but this mission isn’t over until they’re under safe parachutes, splashing down into the Pacific.

My heart is breaking -- Nick (@nickpopemod) passed away this afternoon at our home. The last few weeks of his life, even as he suffered, he managed to do a few interviews from home. I was so lucky to have met and to have married Nick. He was a wonderful husband. I loved him dearly.

BREAKING: The Artemis II astronauts are further from Earth than any humans have ever traveled. Just before 2 p.m. Eastern time, the crew members broke the record of 248,655 miles away from Earth. The previous record was set by the Apollo 13 astronauts in April of 1970. "On April 15, 1970, during the Apollo 13 mission, three explorers set the record for the farthest distance humans have ever traveled from our home planet," said capsule communicator Jenni Gibbons. "At that time, over 55 years ago, Lovell, Swigert and Haise flew 248,655 statute miles away from Earth. Today, for all humanity, you’re pushing beyond that frontier." The crew will reach their maximum distance from Earth at about 252,760 miles in about four hours.

Well, I hope you’re right, and I have to remind myself that X posts don’t accurately account for real-life complex nuance. I was in NATO for 5 years and lived in Europe for a few years, as well as visited 9 different EU nations where I had pleasant experiences. Trump has a very adversarial personality that upsets people, and his whole Greenland fiasco was absurd. However, he is full of complexity himself. He does and says crazy things, but he does positive things as well and genuinely loves his country (he took a bullet to the head and didn’t quit). Hopefully the room temperature will lower and sensible minds will prevail.

I don’t agree there has been hatred of America politically or EU citizens, until now with Trump. If anything the Europeans have enjoyed the benefit of USA having a presence in Europe without them having to invest in the military. That was wrong in the European side and Trump rightly challenged that more forcefully. I don’t believe they want the USA gone, it’s just the Trump approach they’re pushing back on.

@ConceptualV @TomK66094987865 @WarMonitor3 @grok You’re right about these nuances regarding NATO and often people online (including myself) tend to be too reductionist concerning geopolitical complexities. As for Iran, most Americans are very concerned (on edge) about failure causing increased negative global results.

I'll re-word my previous statement, because it's unfair saying that the Ukraine war was your fault. The deal however is partly to blame for Russia being able to attack, but that was not US alone. However, why I react like that is your statement "your European war", when that statement lacks so much historical context, going all the way back to the cold war. Your statement is just as unfair as mine. NATO is overdue for a long time. Times has changed, that's why everyone in Europe thought it was fair when you wanted to pay less to NATO. Hegseth however didn't bother to come to the meeting about restructuring in February. I think we should still have NATO, but it need a total restructure, which is also fair to the US. Your statement about Iran I would be on board with if I thought it was realistic. I currently don't, but if you actually pull it off, I'll take my hat of to you.

Well, I am hoping ground troops won’t be sent in. It would likely result in a perpetual insurgency situation just like in Iraq and Afghanistan. I’m hoping there’s a way that the enriched uranium can be secured some other way. I’m also hoping that the Iranian people can take their country back from the Islamic Republic that has been occupying them for 47 years.

The USA is not loosing. The west is. This will impact us all. Trump is just doing business, and now when he decides to use ground troops, it's going to be bad. I respect US troops highly, and it's just sad how much support this insanity gets. Trump and Hegseth and fired people left and right that oppose ground troops, and you cannot take Iran on the ground. The topology is something the US have no experience with.

@SB30Bio @TomK66094987865 @WarMonitor3 @grok Do none of you really don't understand how INSANE it is to threaten to take Greenland? Do you really don't see it? Just expect that this is something you have the right to claim, just like that?
