In October 1979, just returned from service with UNIFIL in Lebanon, he commanded the parade that pulled out Gen Olusegun Obasanjo on his last regimental tour of duty as Nigeria's military Head of State. 20 yrs later, now as Military Head of State, he was present again in handing over to Olusegun Obasanjo on his return to office as Nigeria's elected president. In the 27 yrs since he retired from active service, Gen. Abdulsalami has been a Continental peace-maker & statesman.
