Thank you for campaigning for healthy eating. However; there is a significant issue that most people who prefer nutritionally sound food run up against. Anything remotely all-natural or healthy is unaffordable. Why is it that SW Florida; despite that we grow and export the majority of fruit & veggies; is more expensive than the states we export to? Tomatoes, onions, grapes, bell peppers, etc. are easily 2.99 a pound. It cost me 6.00 for 2 tomatoes. A watermelon was 10.99. Sirloin hamburger meat is 8.99 lb. Chicken 7.99 lb. Anything gluten-free is twice the cost of regular. Most middle-income families cannot afford to purchase the amount of fruits & veggies required for making healthy meals. So they end up supplementing it with worthless empty calories. I understand that when gas goes down, the price of food starts to go down. However; at this point, the prices by me are way over what they should be, even with gas at the price it is. So you tell me how to eat healthy when it costs $100.00+ for 4 small tiny grocery bags of food, bought on sale, BOGO, coupons included, and let's not forget our non-food necessities. 🤷🏻‍♀️
