It’s not about him becoming captain lol. The issue is Rachel not exploring the trauma behind it. Shane was forced out of Metro, unlike Ilya who chose his path, and reducing that kind of upheaval to “he’ll just sit back and enjoy” is a complete disservice to his character.

Here's my take on Unrivaled (as a sports fan) Realistically speaking, Shane left Montreal to join Ilya in Ottawa. He's going to a new team and he'll have to try to fit into a system that's already established. If he wants that captain position, he has to WORK for it.

Every time Rachel Reid talks, it feels like she takes everything that matters to Shane & hands it to Ilya. As an Asian reader, it’s honestly exhausting to watch such a strong character get constantly diminished. She clearly doesn’t understand him and it shows.
