As part of a larger effort to sequence patients with micrognathia and cleft palate, Andrew M. Vontell et al. identified candidate pathogenic variants in dmx-like 1 (DMXL1). Read the open access article in Differentiation to learn more: doi.org/10.1016/j.diff… @Paul_Iyyanar

Rebekah Niewoehner, @StottmannLab & co showed that mutations in Ttc21b contribute to human primary #microcephaly, and that the severe microcephaly in homozygous #mouse mutants arises from impaired neural progenitor proliferation and differentiation. Read doi.org/10.1242/dmm.05…

@JasonSynaptic this is a ridiculous threshold. 100% effort research PI can write 6 good grants in a year without AI - especially if moving grants from scored to fundable over multiple rounds of review. there is a lot of room betwee 40 grants in one cycle and 6 in a whole year.

The NIH has decided that scientists can only submit 6 grants a year. OK. But you need a score that’s < 10% at least to get funded. Meaning, at best, 1 out of 10 grants you submit will have a chance (YMMV of course). 🫠
