Always a pleasure to participate for a couple of days in the legendary Cold Spring Harbor "Mouse Course." Thanks to Matt A, Katie F, Danelle D and Loydie J-M for the invite. Hope to do it again. Best of luck to the great young scholars i met this week.

A striking difference for two genes in the same GPI-anchor biosynthesis pathway. Congrats Jennifer Watts and Jesus Leal! #Neuroscience #Genetics

New paper in @iScience_CP! We show that Piga is essential for forebrain, oligodendrocyte, and cerebellar development, while Pgap2 is surprisingly dispensable in these contexts.

Excited and grateful for a new NIH NOA for a 5-year project. 🎉 A reminder that persistence is key A0 (7/2023): 27% A1 (3/2024): ND 😬 A0 (10/2024): 22% A1 (7/2025): 2% NOA (5/2026) 1,033 days from first submission to funding. If you believe in the idea, keep going.

Grateful to Andrea Miller, Ivan Martinez Duncker and the CDG CARE team for a fantastic 2026 Scientific & Family Weekend in Orlando. Inspiring to connect with clinicians and PIGA families -- real momentum behind gene replacement therapy for PIGA and other CDGs.

As part of a larger effort to sequence patients with micrognathia and cleft palate, Andrew M. Vontell et al. identified candidate pathogenic variants in dmx-like 1 (DMXL1). Read the open access article in Differentiation to learn more: doi.org/10.1016/j.diff… @Paul_Iyyanar

Rebekah Niewoehner, @StottmannLab & co showed that mutations in Ttc21b contribute to human primary #microcephaly, and that the severe microcephaly in homozygous #mouse mutants arises from impaired neural progenitor proliferation and differentiation. Read doi.org/10.1242/dmm.05…

@JasonSynaptic this is a ridiculous threshold. 100% effort research PI can write 6 good grants in a year without AI - especially if moving grants from scored to fundable over multiple rounds of review. there is a lot of room betwee 40 grants in one cycle and 6 in a whole year.

The NIH has decided that scientists can only submit 6 grants a year. OK. But you need a score that’s < 10% at least to get funded. Meaning, at best, 1 out of 10 grants you submit will have a chance (YMMV of course). 🫠
