@TheChrisLambert The age thing is a vehicle, like the serial killer and the chase between moss and the serial killer. They’re vehicles for its larger themes of fate, meaning and death. To read it as just age feels like an intentionally surface level reading of what a film with broad philosophy.

There Will Be Blood is a movie about the battle for the soul of America between religion and capitalism, a battle that religion loses. It’s just as restrained and precise as No Country. But it deals with a larger concept that takes more time to develop and pay off on. No Country is about aging. Hence the title. It’s about Tommy Lee Jones realizing he no longer has a place in the world. If that seems weird because Jones isn’t in much of the movie: that’s the point. He can’t keep up. The opening monologue he tells a story about his youth and how he helped stop a bad guy. But at this age, he can’t. It’s a genius way to represent the theme. Both are masterpieces. If you have two movies that both hit home runs every time they take a swing, the winner is the one that takes more swings. That’s TWBB.

Every few months, I revisit the No Country vs There Will Be Blood debate. Both are obviously masterpieces, but I've landed on this: No Country is the better film because it is more restrained and precise. TWBB is a strange cinematic opera, No Country is a classical sculpture.

@OtitoNosike He is a genuinely interesting thinker, if he had remained mild mannered and cared about his ideas more than fanfare and politics, emotionally investing himself in both, on top of being a sell out, he would be held in higher regard but for obvious reasons he is not.

I have never understood, and still do not understand, why people loathe Jordan Peterson. For me, he is the most compelling philosopher of the 21st century. His ideas have reshaped how the modern man, particularly in the West, sees himself. And this is not even limited to the West. Any sensible young man can recognize the value in his thinking; lessons that, if practiced as he presents them, have the power to turn one’s life around.

@ahtalksfutbol United if they don’t get Schlotterbeck, unless they rate Heaven very highly and feel they can get a more senior player there. Aston villa would also be good option if they could afford him.

@TalksMax @nocontextfm1 I think it’s way older than a Pep thing, maybe spanish influenced. I might be wrong but the idea of numbered zones has always been around but just much more mainstream now

@saundzo @nocontextfm1 According to Google the idea was put forward by analysts in the 90’s from research out of a university in Liverpool . Which seems pretty crazy.

@nocontextfm1 It might sound weird if you use it but there are literally pro coaches in team & 1-1 settings referencing ‘zone 14’ every single day

Luis Enrique: "My dream is to have 20 players who can play EVERYWHERE. "I'd love to have 20 footballers who can play all over the pitch: Nuno Mendes as a full-back, as a midfielder, as a forward, as a number 9... except for the goalkeeper. "Imagine the opposing coach who sees the lineup and wonders how one player covers every zone on the pitch. It'll be tough. I'll try to achieve it in that sense." 🧠🇪🇸

Next steps already coming, revisionism on Mainoo at Euro 2024. Was quite clearly England’s best midfielder and was our best player in the semi-final, and now they’re gonna try and change the narrative, but it’s not hate guys…it’s ‘criticism’.

Surprised how many people are very off on the Alvarez deal, even just look at what other options there are i think it's a good deal + profile wise for Atleti and La liga seems good. Money made back likely from sales of Omoridion and Felix who weren't in squad last season.

@saundzo It’s more the players who can play it see it, like he says the vision is a byproduct of the technical ability. Because you can play a pass like that you’re more likely to see it. If you can’t you wouldn’t even think of it and then you wouldn’t see it. But I think he meant that.

“It comes hand in hand. The vision comes as a byproduct of the technical ability. I wouldn’t have seen that pass or be able to execute that pass; the players who can see it can play it.” A really clean, informative piece of analysis from Hayden. Huge scouting relevance, v good
