NEW: UK officials feel they can no longer trust US counterparts with sensitive material, plunging a decades-long intelligence relationship into uncertainty. An official said the White House showed “no compulsion about screwing over allies” and stated that the UK simply “cannot trust” Donald Trump. It comes after yesterday’s FT report revealing that US officials seconded to UK Government are being asked to leave meetings which discuss sensitive information. A UK intelligence source described the move as “tit for tat”, meaning that any attempts to protect UK intelligence are only in response to similar hostilities from the US. inews.co.uk/news/uk-securi…

Thousands of people turned up on Trafalgar Square in London, UK, tonight, to show their solidarity with Ukraine and to protest against the Russian aggression, 12 years in the making, including 4 years of the full-scale war. 1/2

This was seen in Bondarevsky- Smyslov, 1946. This game is shown as an example of a brilliant strategic game by Black. White played the logical, but wrong 13.e5? MVL, showed a brilliant novelty here for White yesterday, which turns the assessment to +/=. Guess the move!

You're 2100+ if you can draw this as White. Yes you read it right, draw as White. I saw it on reddit the other day, source is below. White to move, what do you play?

(medium++) You're 1500+ if you find mate in 3 for White, 1900+ if you do it under 20s. Black was actually better before taking on b2, but this greedy move turns out to be a fatal mistake. White to move, can you finish off the game?

@ImShahinyan Well, you see the "mate" after 1 Nxd6 cd 2 Ne7+ Kh8 3 Rxh7+ Kxh7 4 Rh1+ then realise there's 4...Qh6, unclear. So you think what if I shift the Black Q first? Then you realise that after 1 Rde1 the Black Q is actually trapped.

@chesscom Oops, not 6/7...Kxh7 in these lines, but 6/7...Kxg8. Also, I now notice a Black P on a2, so none of this works!!

@chesscom 1 Bxf6+ Qxf6 2 Rg8+ Kh7 3 Qxf6 Re1+ 4 Kg2 Re2+ 5 Kf3 Re3+ 6 Kf2 and Black is out of checks so 6...Kxh7 7 Qf7+ then 8 Qf8+ and 9 Qxb4. If instead 4...Rb1+ 5 Kg2 Re2+ 6 Kf3 Re3+ 7 Kf2 no more checks so 7...Kxh7 8 Qf5+ and 9 Qxb1.

@agadmator 1. … Ba8 looks awkward eg 2. Qa4 Nb6 or 2. Qd4 Nf6 or 2. Qa6 Nc7 - tricky to see and calculate through though.

@wyahaw @agadmator Andy, on Bxb7 I'm pinching the eP with check (saving the N), then recovering the piece on d2 and presumably winning another P (by Bxg5 or Rxb2) making the computer assessment of about +2 quite plausible!

@ChessGainz 1. Rxc8 Raxc8 2. Qe6+ Rf7 (2. ... Kh8 3. Qh3+ Nh4 4. Qxg4+ Kg8 5. Qh7#) 3. Qxf7+ Kh8 4. Qh5+ Kg8 5. Qh7+ Kg8 6. Ne6+ Kf7 7. Qxg7+ Kxe6 8. Qg4+ ... Then Qxc8 and we are done...
