It’s jarring how many people I know who couldn’t care less about the NBA right now. Was at a brewery last weekend watching the NCAA and it was like pulling teeth trying to get anyone to talk about the league. The NBA has a serious cultural problem with the American sports fan.

@SamQuinnCBS I would classify myself as a diehard. I watched so many teams growing up because I couldn’t stomach watching the Wolves most nights. The NBA is white noise. It’s an effort thing idc. It’s not just the all star game it’s most games.

I've noticed a meaningful drop in casual fans since I started doing this full time. The diehards are there and will remain there, but if I'm at a social function, there are fewer people with a passing knowledge of the NBA who want to talk about my job than there used to be.

The 20-year Treasury yield just punched through 5%.
That’s the bond market telling you something the White House press office won’t: the trade war tariff and Iran chaos is starting to look a lot like a self-inflicted credit event. Foreign holders are selling US Treasuries. Yields spike when prices fall. Basic stuff. Painful stuff.
The downstream math writes itself. 7% mortgages. $4 gas.
Here’s the part that should make you spit out your coffee: this isn’t happening because the economy is roaring. It’s happening because the world is quietly, methodically, repricing the risk of holding American debt. That’s a very different animal.
The adults used to be in the room. The room is now on fire and someone is arguing about the drapes.

Oil prices are no longer the biggest threat to markets.
It has become increasingly clear that bond markets will dictate just how long President Trump can continue increase pressure in the Iran War.
The 10Y Note Yield is now up ~45 basis points since the war began on February 28th.
This is in-line with the rapid surge seen around "Liberation Day" in April 2025.
As the 10Y Note Yield surged above 4.50% in April 2025, President Trump began floating a potential tariff "pause."
And, once the 10Y Yield broke above 4.60%, President Trump officially implemented a 90-day pause on his reciprocal tariffs on April 9th, 2025.
With the 10Y Note Yield now up to 4.40%, we believe the 4.50% to 4.60% range will be the "line in the sand" again.
The US economy cannot handle a 5% 10Y Note Yield.
