That’s a solid point. Playing devils advocate here, Bichette will be entering his age 29 season in ‘27, he will be the top available FA of the class next off season, as no notable bats will be available.
I’m sure there will be conversations through out the season from his agent, owners, MLB and MLBPA of how things are looking like heading into the new CBA. If he out performs his deal, he might want to strike while the irons hot.
My hope is, he enjoys the vibes here playing alongside Semien, and even if he decides to opts out, would remain interested in a quick reunion long term.

-The Mets forfeited their second and fifth highest picks in the 2026 draft + $1 million from their international bonus pool
-The Bluejays will receive a comp pick after the 4th round of the ‘26 draft
-If Bichette opts out, he is no longer eligible for a qualifying offer from the Mets

I honestly still don’t know what to make of the fact that the Blue Jays were willing to go 10 years for Kyle Tucker and he took 4 years from the Dodgers anyway. I get it; $60 million a year is a lot of money, but I’m sure that so was whatever payday was coming his way in Toronto.

This is truly why I’m not as angry or mad as I was after the Ohtani saga. The Toronto Blue Jays are still in a very good spot and every projection proves that. After the Ohtani incident the team was the worst show on grass.
This is an actual good baseball team still.
