@_OutlierTrading @KrisAbdelmessih the option market is clearly saying "half cash half stock"

This week on The Options Trench:
@KrisAbdelmessih and I look at the recent $GME bid to acquire $EBAY
What do the options market say?

@options_insight i find these structures to be fairly broken and disconnect the actual idea the trader is attempting to express.
if you see something broke out and are scared to chase the local high - why are we even buying?
express the idea or don't.
English

You think a stock breaks higher but you don't want to chase the local high?
Sell one ATM call. Buy two OTM calls. Pay almost nothing.
If it fades, you barely lose. If it rips, you kick into long vega and the structure pays like a lottery ticket.
Just beware the "valley of death" between the strike as you get close to expiry. Always better to roll these before they get to short dated.

@Han_Akamatsu great conversation with a much better tone - got to some important details

Ryan Cohen interview on Charles Payne:
Ryan Cohen went into extensively explaining of how the proposed $GME / $EBAY deal can work:
GameStop has $9B cash and says it has a highly committed $20B financing letter from TD.
The offer is $125/share, split 50% cash and 50% equity.
His argument is that eBay shareholders get immediate liquidity while still owning a large piece of the combined company, instead of only taking stock.
Cohen frames the deal as EPS-accretive, not destructive dilution.
The key point is that eBay is an asset-light marketplace doing $11B in revenue but carrying over $5.6B in operating expenses, including $2.5B in sales and marketing.
Cohen believes those costs can be cut aggressively, making eBay far more profitable inside a combined GameStop/eBay structure.
In simple terms:
1. GameStop brings cash + financing.
2. eBay brings earnings + marketplace scale.
Cohen believes that operational efficiency turns the combined company into a much higher-earning business for both shareholder bases. Both $GME and $EBAY.

@dogeofficialceo and santa isn't real - what the fuck is going on! all dreams shattered.
English

@Brody_Stelmach @JosephCobraKai but his attitude what kinda contentious. he could've said - we have ideas but aren't ready to share them to preserve the deal. etc.
English

@Brody_Stelmach @JosephCobraKai i think the broader game is as we know Cohen is VERY calculated in his moves and what he messages. even the fact he opted to move this to public media before eBay even knew.
my guess is he simply wants to keep things as vague as possible which is his normal style - OPSEC.
English

@Silverkosa to their point, there aren't really details - which they were trying to get.
he wasn't dragged onto the call, so i imagine he wanted to be there.
seems like he was generally not pleased with that part because the tone shifted later.
English

@outlieroptions Probably because they didn’t even read the details
English

@JosephCobraKai i don't buy that tbh. it's a 15minute interview, that question could've taken <180 seconds if he simply answered it. it turned into a production with how he was responding.
my curiosity is why
English

@outlieroptions They were trying to make the focus of the conversation about the need for share offerings/dilution that will be needed to make the deal happen rather than any positive spin about the proposed acquisition.

This week's The Options Trench is about the accelerator.

this week on The Options Trench @KrisAbdelmessih and I work through option convexity and how this differs from leverage. most importantly, how the square of moves impacts your position PnL. youtu.be/cZvaEVW7Yf4
