I guess this is a lesson to me that there's nuance in just about everything, even if I think it's obvious that there isn't.

But yes they focused on anyone they viewed as being outside the founding ethnic makeup of the United States, not simply Black people. Italians, Jews, Asians, and even the Irish because they were Catholic and not Protestant.

Both punishing and defending people they believe wrongly judged. They most certainly did lynch murderers and rapists though.
