Another sad loss from the world of Advance. Longtime senior Republican Advance Man Judd Swift died yesterday. Judd and I worked on several major trips from Bob Dole’s campaign through the Bush 43 years. He was the “UberLead”! He attended Rick Ahearn’s funeral a couple years ago, and it was good to catch up. One of my favorite events with Judd. I “secured” him a John Deere Gator to run around in, with a sigh that said UberLead on it. He loved it.

Sad news in the Advance community to hear of Jim Hooley’s passing. He put much of Mike Deaver’s vision for President Reagan into action as Director of Advance for much of the Reagan administration.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of James (Jim) Hooley, a key aide to President Reagan. Jim Hooley served as a top advance man and later as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Advance, playing a vital role behind the scenes of the Reagan presidency.

I didn’t know what he was say, but the wedding was great to see, the child in the chairs was funny, Tonita with the drink was fantastic, the power poles bit was a thoroughly cagey way to highlight that issue. I loved Lady Gaga’s portion. I thought Ricky was smooth. Just wasn’t aware it was a Latino WAP song!

@advanceguynotes This is what he was saying. there was nothing positive about it. I’m Cuban and my entire Cuban family thought it was disgusting and perverse.

My favorite part of the Super Bowl…the halftime build out! I love that the bulk of the foliage decor are actually people dressed in Ghillie suits. I was disappointed that they placed the American flag 🇺🇸 to the right of the Puerto Rican flag 🇵🇷 in the unifying image. And I thought Bad Bunny would have helped his cause by holding an American flag 🇺🇸 in his grassy close up. (Also, Ricky Martin is a mucho better singer!)

I thought it had some positive themes (the wedding), some weird themes (the guys stealing the tires! 😬) but was overall a very pro Monroe Doctrine statement of unity in the western hemisphere. Seems strange that the NFL chose the 250th birthday of the United States 🇺🇸 to go this route. 🤷‍♂️

A group of us went and saw the @MelaniaMovie tonight. I actually really enjoyed it, not just because I support the Trumps, but because it was a super interesting peek behind the scenes of the logistics to everything that goes into White House advance. Good to see Justin, Justin, Hayley, John, Andrea, Daniel, Chris, Matt, Michelle, Gabe, Walt, and Austin in the periphery. (They all owe us beers 🍻)!

Wayback Wednesday. Air Force One calls in the Backup aircraft to transport President Clinton out of Champaign, Illinois on January 28, 1998. SAM 27000 ended up stuck in the mud. SAM 26000 hustled in from Indiana to pick up President Clinton. It was the last Presidential trip for JFK’s Air Force One, which was retired soon after to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. (Go visit!). SAM 27000 retired a few years later, and @AdvanceGuyNotes was lucky enough to be on its final OCONUS trip, pictured here in Poland. It’s now at the Reagan Library.
