When red voters rephrase the dilemma it's something like "Red: %0 chance of dying, Blue: You die, unless %50 of ppl also press blue" which is still the same decision; but when blue ppl rephrase the dilemma, it's just this. Nothing to do with the actual dilemma and pure demagogy

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Read my previous tweets, I already explained why I don't think there's a red "kill people" button but you responded to none of them in good faith arguments, and instead resorted to callin me "selfish" & "u want to kill ppl"?? k? This is a waste of time and I won't be responding
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 I dunno, you're the one pressing the kill people button, you tell me.
English

no it's more like everyone is tied to the track, if you press the red button you untie yourself and nobody else, but if 50% of the people on the track press the blue button everyone is untied? not the same but closer i think - it matches the collective help thing
Rock Solid@ShitpostRock2
Dumbest fucking hypothetical ever posted
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Why would I want random strangers to die buddy, what do I get out of that? Lol. Some ppl want to argue seriously about a thought experiment but some blue defenders are only interested about stroking their dick about how morally superior they are. This is a waste of time
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 If you press the red button, you do in fact want people to die! You can say you don't, but your choice says otherwise.
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 The button is as much as made up as the gun, for the hypothetical thought experiment. The button isn't less likely to kill you. No, I don't want anyone to die idiot, that's why I don't want anyone to do dumb shit irl. Moral highground powertrip blue voters are having is insanse
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 There is no gun barrel. It's a button. Stop trying to rephrase the problem to get around the fact that you're selfish and want people to die.
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 I said throwing yourself to your own death because red would be likely to win in a real life scenario, with the threat of death evident, in your face and undeniable. You will literally die if you jump in front of a barrel, but everyone has a chance to get out of the barrel's way
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Blue isn't throwing yourself to your own death. Red is killing people.
Get. It. Right.
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 I have no problem with blue winning, but %42-48 isn't small, and irl situation with the threat of death being evident (hence why ppl make gun to ur head examples) red is very likely to win. So u would be throwing yourself to your own death, hoping enough people do the same thing
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Yeah, and blue keeps winning.
Blue isn't the suicide list. Red is the murder list. Get it right.
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Ppl reword the question to make it more obvious that this whole situation is unneeded, which is created when you press blue and sign into the suicide list. Yeah, reworded, sure, but it's still the same choice with the same dilemma and same probabilities
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 You cannot reword the problem to get out of red being the selfish pick that would actively kill people if enough were as selfish as you.
Both are gambles, but where blue is a gamble to save everyone, red is a gamble to kill people that didn't vote red.
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Yeah, you said that, but how & why? If we worded the buttons as "Red: %0 chance of dying" and "Blue: You will die, unless %50 of people also press this button" most ppl would surely press red. Red choice is just refusing to play the blue gamble, which is a dumb & pointless gamble
English

@array08191 @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Pressing the red button is in fact what creates that danger.
English

@Arkthugal @DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 But you're not in danger prior to voting and no one forces you to press blue. You're in danger after you press blue, red button doesn't create that danger, pressing the blue button does
English

@DavidKastille @hellofamil73975 Incorrect! Pressing the red button is what kills people.
English

@Tetsuc4bruh @gerardinpain @bicboitom @JeffNorman8472 @_Hazardous_Wolf I'd argue someone who doesn't know how to swim to jump down into the water to save a drowning person, then drowning himself too and leaving his wife behind is a selfish decision too. Altruistic, sure, but still selfish. We save people by trusting our own ability, not luck
English

@Tetsuc4bruh @gerardinpain @bicboitom @JeffNorman8472 @_Hazardous_Wolf Those risks don't rely on pure luck though. You have control over those situations. In this one, you just press a button and hope
English

@burensou @TrueSlazac @jDtheFreeman @Myonlychoice12 @ViewYoah50286 @Karl_Fuck_Uyama Reason I'm saying this is I think even the majority of the red voters would say "Yes, I'd sacrifice myself to save million kids" imo. But the assumption that there would be people who would press a random button solves the dilemma by itself. There's no interesting choice anymore
English

@array08191 @TrueSlazac @jDtheFreeman @Myonlychoice12 @ViewYoah50286 @Karl_Fuck_Uyama No one's offering the thought experiment. The poll you should be thinking about isn't the one from a twitter post but the one in the hypothetical reality of that scenario, where everyone (as the post mentioned) would be voting. Including retards old incapable people and babies.
English

@burensou @TrueSlazac @jDtheFreeman @Myonlychoice12 @ViewYoah50286 @Karl_Fuck_Uyama I still think the dilemma disappears, because what's the point of offering a thought experiment to ppl who can't read or understand thought experiments? But sure, let's go with dat. Only 21-60 aged healthy people can vote, non-voters are unaffected, red or blue?
English

@array08191 @TrueSlazac @jDtheFreeman @Myonlychoice12 @ViewYoah50286 @Karl_Fuck_Uyama I personally chose red in 15 seconds and ended up voting blue after actually thinking about it.
English

@notsoErudite This is just a very bad faith argument in favor of a logical fallacy becuse most people who picked red would also say "Yeah, I would risk my life to save kids" but this is clearly not the point of the thought experiment here
English

@notsoErudite People don't assume infants would be able to vote because it's a hypothetical thought experiment (meaning it's not real) aimed at people who can understand hypothetical thought experiments. The main dilemma completely disappers once you assume infants would vote
English

Since everyone was very curious my answer, my answer is obviously blue.
Gotta save the naive, the kids, the blue lovers, and the principally hope-pilled people.
You red button pickers need therapy.

MrBeast@MrBeast
Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.
English

@TrueSlazac @jDtheFreeman @Myonlychoice12 @ViewYoah50286 @Karl_Fuck_Uyama People don't assume infants would be able to vote because it's a hypothetical thought experiment (meaning it's not real) aimed at people who can understand hypothetical thought experiments. English

@jDtheFreeman @Myonlychoice12 @ViewYoah50286 @Karl_Fuck_Uyama by the original framing it is, if you add variables then yeah the scenario changes, crazy idea
English

The button, just like the giant blender, is made up for a hypothetical scenario. The button is as magical as the giant blender and literally has the same probability of magically killing you.
sma ⏹️@smatta1701
"Would you be willing to push a button?" "Ah, sure I guess." "Would you be willing to jump into this giant blender? Don't worry, I promise you magically won't get hurt, so it's functionally identical to pressing a button." "...No?" "Ahh ha! I got you!"
English

@gerardinpain @bicboitom @JeffNorman8472 @_Hazardous_Wolf Yeah, but we're arguing which is more logical, no? Sure, you can decide to sit under the hydraulic press to crush you and as long as enough people sit with you, you survive. But why sit under the hydraulic press in the first place, when you can just not?
