@sebastianjunger Tribe was an amazing book and has a bigger message that everyone can relate to especially now. Looking forward to what you have to say.

Hi everyone, Ive just started a Substack called Tribe that will look at current events through the lens of evolution, anthropology and history. One of the great things about those disciplines is watching how they shred political ideology. Enjoy!

We’ve been seeing more and more players in the payments and stablecoins space launch their own blockchains. To me, that’s a clear sign the market sees blockchain as core financial infrastructure — something we’ve believed in and have been building toward on the XRP Ledger for over 13 years.
Launching a blockchain is hard. Building an ecosystem with developers, liquidity, trust, and real-world usage is even harder. The XRPL has real traction and institutional adoption because it’s been battle-tested, updated, and improved upon for well over a decade.
Some blockchains are built with permissioned validator sets controlled by one entity or a small group. This can provide control and compliance for specific, closed-network scenarios, but it limits reach, resilience, and the ability for anyone to contribute to securing and growing the network. Decentralization vs. centralization is constantly debated and there’s not a single answer that fits every use case for crypto and the concepts themselves have changed in definition over the years.
As many of you know, the XRPL is public and permissionless at its core, with optional permissioned features for regulated use cases. This open foundation makes it adaptable, interoperable, and well-positioned to serve as critical infrastructure for the world’s financial system — connecting assets, markets, and participants seamlessly across borders.
The XRPL was built so fees stay low and predictable, just fractions of a cent, without a separate gas token. You can pay directly in XRP for any issued asset, avoiding the friction and hidden costs of buying another token just to transact. XRP is counterparty-free, accessible by all, and used as a bridge asset with real utility for payments, settlement, and liquidity. (Every transaction on the XRPL uses/burns XRP.)
It’s encouraging to see some newer chains adopt design choices that have long been part of the XRPL’s architecture, like deterministic finality and Proof of Authority-based consensus mechanisms. It shows there’s growing alignment in the industry on the importance of predictable, reliable settlement for financial applications without expensive validation.
Looking forward to the next phase of XRPL innovations, bringing more programmability, compliance-grade capabilities, and deeper liquidity for institutional use.
And to those just getting started… Welcome to the party! The crypto tent is only getting bigger.

@grok had an interesting take. Currently in the beta there is no cryptocurrency used or slated to be used in any publicly available info. I went down the road of questioning grok about which network would be the most suitable for a project like this. I made a point to not be leading or show any bias when deciding the best network.

Kids have been doing dumb things like this for ages. This starts as some stupid local thing then news wants to capitalize and make some $$$ and get more viewers so they sensationalize it then it gets bigger and happens more. Then social media personalities want to capitalize and get clicks so they post it and help the stupid idea spread. Its like the civilized version of doing the kool aid challenge.

NEW: New York police are looking for a group of teens responsible for conducting the 'Kool-Aid Man Challenge' on a fence.
The 'Kool-Aid Man Challenge' is where groups of teens charge through homeowners' fences before running away.
The trend first took off in 2023 however, it appears to be picking up speed again, with New York police recently fielding three reports.
One Indiana homeowner, who has had $2200 in damages, says teens target homes with PVC fencing because of how easily they break apart.

@WKahneman The big picture is really starting to reveal itself. I don’t doubt the SEC suit was part of slowing down Ripple’s entry into the brokerage space. It makes a lot more sense now.

Why is #Ripple's acquisition of Hidden Road important, especially for #XRP?
Why does Ripple want this?any XRP and #XRPL advocates have been waiting for. Ripple is no longer just building around traditional financial infrastructure, they bought it! Among other things, Hidden Road connects the XRPL to actual plumbing of global markets. That means Ripple now has a direct path to put real institutional volume on the ledger, potentially for the first time at scale. This could be the beginning of XRPL becoming a true settlement layer in global finance. No, it probably won't affect XRP price in the short term :)
What does a prime broker like Hidden Road do?
In traditional finance, hedge funds and trading firms don’t want to deal with every individual exchange, settle every trade themselves, or hold collateral all over the place. They use a prime broker as a central counterparty that gives them access to markets, handles clearing and settlement, offers leverage, and lets them borrow and lend across venues with unified credit and risk management.
Why does RIpple want this?
Ripple wants this because it gives them the architecture they need to deliver finance using blockchain rails underneath. Hidden Road already supports 300+ institutions & clears $3+ trillion in annual volume. It plugs into exchanges like Coinbase International, OKX, Deribit, Bitfinex, and Bullish. Its credit and clearing platform lets clients trade across these exchanges with one credit line and a single settlement partner. For Ripple, this opens the door to get its RLUSD stablecoin and XRP into actual institutional flows across multiple trading venues. It also means Ripple can now directly service firms it already works with, like B2C2, which is a client of both RippleNet and Hidden Road. (They did participate in HR's series B and have history)
And here is the important part
More importantly, Brad is quoted as saying they will use the XRPL for part of Hidden Road’s post-trade settlement. It's a realization of the promise of the ledger to remove wait, waiting hours or days to settle across traditional banking systems, some trades could clear instantly on XRPL. If Ripple can prove that #XRPL works as a high volume, low cost settlement system for real trades and real institutions, it sets a new benchmark for blockchain utility. This has the potential to dramatically increase the transactional volume on the ledger and make XRP part of institutional trading and clearing flows.
Note that the use of credit is key.
Institutional finance runs on leverage and netting, not fully-funded accounts. Hidden Road gives Ripple the ability to provide capital efficient trading backed by its own balance sheet, especially RLUSD. It can now be used as collateral across Hidden Road’s platform, immediately increasing its utility and circulation. Instead of just being used for payments, RLUSD can now function as a funding asset, a margin asset, and potentially a settlement layer across crypto and traditional markets.
Put simply, this deal gives Ripple a potential place in the traditional finance world. They have a robust stack or plumbing:
A regulated trading network.
A stablecoin with real utility.
A ledger with institutional-grade settlement speed.
A way to scale volume onto XRPL.
And a new kind of customer, FI's & funds that need clearing and credit. If Ripple can connect all of that together, the #XRPL becomes its end goal of infrastructure.
Maybe they will run a validator!
