Marathon training is: feeling really accomplished after a big long run workout and then realizing you have to run tomorrow… and the next day and the next.

A lot of automation technology doesn't actually save any labor once you factor in all of the interactions you have with it. A drip coffee maker would be a canonical example.

@UltraRunner26 I really love my OpenRun headset. It’s not perfect, but it’s been a far superior experience to all other Bluetooth headphones I’ve used.

Alright, it's time to give these a shot. Had so many issues with others headphones not staying connecting to the Garmin 965.

@kareem_carr I think what I find so jarring is that growing up and as a young adult, what I understood from the Republican Party was that character was all that mattered. The reversal has been swift, and complete.

A false belief many on the left have is the most moral person wins the election. So they’re confused by yesterday’s outcome. What they need to consider is maybe morals don’t matter much at all, and even if they did, most of the electorate doesn’t share their version of morality.

As OpenAI and Meta introduce LLM-driven searchbots, I'd like to once again remind people that neither LLMs nor chatbots are good technology for information access. A thread, with links: >>

@_nomadic_soul I’ve started scheduling meetings for Tuesday but know that I’m going to be basically useless during them.

Is anyone else having a hard time focusing as we draw closer to the election? All I want to do is eat scones, drink lattes, and hibernate until Wednesday.

Jesus did not die for you. Jesus LIVES for you. Jesus died because of sin. But we are more than sin. We are loved by God. We are worth living for. And that is why Jesus rose.

@UltraRunner26 One thing I’ve been surprised by is how discomfort is a moving target. Last month’s very uncomfortable is this month’s a bit uncomfortable; but, without mental toughness, it can be hard to decide to push harder.

💪 Are you pushing yourself to be a little uncomfortable at least 1 day a week during training? This is how you will achieve Personal Records. You can't just live in Zone 2 everyday, regardless of what every post says nowadays.

If all you're doing is Zone 2 and Zone 5...your training is lacking. You need every intensity. In the right proportions, given your goal. But the emphasizing of these 2 zones is like giving people a hammer & a saw and that's it for all their work. We have many tools, use them.

Just learning what your stomach likes and doesn't like at different temps and paces is what I'm referring to. Lots of trying new things. You won't know what sounds good in an Ultra until your in it. I ran 100 miler once on pancakes, bacon and tailwind. Never practiced with the pancakes and bacon but it's what sounded good that day.

👍 Capped off 70 miles this week. Nice ramp up and some good workouts this week. 80 miles on deck for next week. How did did your week look?

@UltraRunner26 When you say trial and error, are you referring to fueling strategy? (When) Or brands/types of fuel? (What) Or both? I’ve settled on a brand; I’m not sure how much caffeine to plan for, though. I’m also up in the air re: carrying electrolyte+water or relying on aid stations.

@bretthmeyer Yup, now it comes down to fueling. Be sure to do lots of trial and error.

@UltraRunner26 I’m so excited, to be honest. The point of the race was a check-in for a marathon coming in December. Qualifying for Boston doesn’t feel so out of reach anymore!

💪 It's getting cold already. Like many others, I do not like cold at all. But don't let this be a reason your not ready for spring races. A cold or crummy day should not change the goals you set for yourself. Races don't wait for sunny days, so be prepared for all scenarios.
