@hughs_rants @washingtonpost I quit the Post in 2019. When I was at the Post, I built up a big Twitter following. Since I left the Post, and especially since Twitter changed hands, not so much -- not a big fan of Musk or Bezos. But this platform has been a nice gathering place for ex-Post writers this week.

Every morning I'm frustrated anew at the incoherence of @washingtonpost - if you're going to cut sports section, culture section, etc., why keep pretending you have them? Wouldn't it make more sense to overhaul your layout rather than keeping on with skeleton sections?

@hughs_rants I left the Post six years ago, and I write about whatever I want now, and don't have to answer to anybody. But I do feel for the critics who were just laid off.

The money-losing Washington Post had a full-time classic music critic. She doesn't critique classical music. She wrote about the behind-the-scenes politicking at a music venue. The Post can't afford this. It belongs in a niche publication for the 12 people who give a shit.

And I was going to say, I don't know the answer, but I do want the Post to keep publishing and I want my former colleagues to get paid and keep looking into the Kennedy Center and the government and all the other shit that's going on, so I guess that's the answer for me.

I tell ya, I was done with Twitter, er, X. But the defenestration of Will Lewis really energized it for me. It’s still a cesspool compared to before @elonmusk bought it but I’ve appreciated hearing from my former @washingtonpost colleagues.
