@Dominus_Kelvin Hard disagree on Docker lol. I'll take Vercel, Railway, Render etc. 100/100 over Docker Really all you need is MongoDB Atlas free tier and Vercel/Railway/Netlify free tier. Cheap VPS still costs money

Replace Vercel with Docker + VPS. Replace Netlify with Docker + VPS. Replace PlanetScale with PostgreSQL on a VPS. Replace Neon with PostgreSQL on a VPS. Replace Upstash with Redis on a VPS. Replace Meilisearch Cloud with Meilisearch on a VPS. Replace Algolia with Meilisearch on a VPS. Replace Supabase with Postgres + Auth + Storage on a VPS. Replace Railway with Docker + VPS. Replace Render with Docker + VPS. Replace Fly.io with Docker + VPS. All you really need: • Docker • A cheap VPS • PostgreSQL • Redis • SMTP

@a_hafez12 I don't know about the taking out a loan bit, you need more info than that practically speaking. But yes your SSN is supposed to be a "secret" even though 9 digits is extremely easy to memorize at a glance (same as a US telephone number)

I always wondered why the Social Security Number is so important in the US. Turns out it both identifies and authenticates you. You can take out loans on someone's behalf just by knowing their SSN. I often wonder how the US still functions.

In 2022 there were serious people arguing @meteorjs should maintain a forked Node.js just to keep Fibers alive. We went the other direction. Removed Fibers entirely. Full async/await. Shipped it in July 2024 as Meteor 3.0. 2,300 commits. 800+ changed files. The right call. blog.galaxycloud.app/meteorjs-relea…

@nejatian MIA is a fairly decent airport. Light years better than EWR and LGA, which is what I grew up flying out of (low bar I know). WiFi is fine in lounges Pro tip: fly Delta out of MIA. Terminal w/ 8 gates. Clear+Pre, curb to lounge in < 5 minutes. Less stress than AA

Miami is a wonderful city. Its airport is really not. How do you have an airport without *great* WiFi?

Allegedly South Florida has "drought". It's been a cool, humid, and rainy winter with regular heavy rain for the last 3 weeks I'm running dehumidifiers & wading through ankle deep water in my driveway Something's off here Are they redirecting water to data centers or something?

@caydengineer @MentraGlass What's the default prescription on these? I don't normally wear glasses or contacts except no-prescription blue light blockers.

We worked 996 in Shenzhen making smart glasses so you don’t have to. AI has made us 100X smarter… unless you work in the physical world. That’s because AI can’t see, can’t hear, can’t act in the physical world. But now with smart glasses, it can. But making smart glasses is really hard and expensive and you’ll probably fail. That’s why we made open source smart glasses, so you don’t have to. Mentra Live is for building and deploying apps that let AI see, hear, and act in real time. Think of frontline workers wearing smart glasses as AI whispers repair instructions in their ears, salespeople getting live tips to close a deal, manufacturing inspections verified with AI vision, delivery drivers saving minutes per door. The software under-the-hood (MentraOS) is open source, which means you own the app, the data, the glasses, the deployment. You can start deploying smart glasses now. Mentra does the glasses OS, hardware, and infra - you build the app and deploy it. What will you build?

Working on a new demo video for mongoosestudio.app Only it's not a video, it's JS controlling the real Mongoose Studio UI in an iframe Many neat advantages to this approach: 1. Responsive layout 2. Dark theme 3. No video editing

Thinking about putting together a small monthly tech dinner in Miami. Nothing formal, just a table somewhere new each month. Anyone into that?

@GregorySchier @akramcodez I've been thinking about this myself. When I travel, I bring my laptop... but I also bring a portable keyboard and foldable double monitor because I feel much more efficient with a larger keyboard and more screens. If I'm already bringing keyboard and monitor, why not a mini?

@Dominus_Kelvin I've considered switching off of gmail for my biz, but the big sticking point for me is "log in with gmail" goes away. Gmail isn't even about email for me anymore, it's more about OAuth identity.

As a builder or creator, if you own a domain, it's odd that you still do business with a Gmail address. It costs $0 to set up email routing on Cloudflare and get professional email addresses for your business. Recently showed a client on a Ship Lean session and even though they used Cloudflare they weren’t aware of this
