The biggest mistake I ever made streaming was taking a break. The time and sanity you gain back is so very hard to give up again. It really does take your everything. I'm so grateful for the opportunities it opened up for me and wouldn't ever take it back, but I so get why others before me left and never came back. I think this especially rings true if you didn't have a support system. Single, living alone, giving your all for something, and then taking a little bit back for yourself and realizing, wow, that was exhausting. I love seeing where live coding has gone, and will always be proud of the little bit I contributed to it's early days. I often lurk now, trying to be a fly on the wall so not to detail what is happening. Many would dead stop what they are doing just to catch up, derail the stream, and instantly pivot to the has-been is chat, which is awesome, but it was never about one person. It was about showing the next generation how to fail, how to be curious, how to try new things. Maybe one day I will get back on the horse, but I can be happy that many I look up to continue to press on. Tech is hard. Imposter syndrome is rampant. Keep making safe spaces for those new to our chosen path. <3
