Remember this is like pouring water into the ocean. The city’s budget gap is $12 billion. Hypothetically, if they all sold to city residents, to make up the proposals $500m in sales tax rather than this ‘pied-à-terre tax,’ there would need to be over $11 billion in additional spending, in the city, to make up the difference. They guess about 14,000 homes would fall under this proposed tax, that is almost $800k in spending for each household, all in the city.

i don’t think the team knew how to write a fully realized avatar with free access to the avatar state. in the (kiyoshi) books the drawback seems to be that ur past lives can then influence ur decisions, which could be interesting to see, but they kinda wrecked that in korra, so

I think what kills me the most - is they didn't have to run the original through an ai generator to use it. A lot of Alphone Mucha's work is public domain - including Zodiac. If they needs quick backgrounds, they could have just photo shopped stock versions of the image 🤦‍♀️

I am glad they changed it, the colors look a lot brighter. After doing some research the ai wasn't even generating new images - it was just spitting out desaturated filtered versions of Alphonse Mucha's work. For example - it 1 to 1 ripped 'Zodiac' from 1896.

@beeofstagnancy @north0fnorth A majority of modern creators (the most famous ones) don't go to film school. YouTube from a quantity perspective. Someone who wants to create high quality YouTube content might go to film school to learn proper tooling. But they won't be looking at cinema as their inspo.

defining moment in film school for me was doing a class where the first assignment was just to show off media that inspires your work. i did david lynch, claire denis, apichatpong weerasethakul, and nam june paik while my classmates all did stuff like pokémon and gravity falls

@beeofstagnancy @north0fnorth But it doesn't have fancy camera angles or expensive lighting. It takes care in its animation and has visual language in the bending and martial arts. You can tell it has artistry that is difficult to replicate given the problems with the live action.

@beeofstagnancy @north0fnorth Personally for me avatar the last Airbender is the peak of storytelling. And it was content primarily targeted at children. But it has allegory, complex themes, emotion, humor, character growth and doesn't beat you over the head with a moral.

@north0fnorth Isn't a part of film school meant to expose people to these types of movies you wouldn't normally watch. For them it's the "classic style" of film. And for you it's how impactful "kid media" can be as a medium.

Ngl if they really are planning a Nintendo cinematic universe, I’m kind of disappointed now that The Legend of Zelda is going to be live action… It would’ve been really fun to see this in an animated format and tie into the potential universe.
