@TheDutchessNJ @FarmGirlCarrie They’re pointing out that literally everyone watching it is gonna think these exact same things. Which is NOT what is supposed to be taken from the book lol

@AmberLiL11 @fandompulse It’s not ‘racist’ to be mad about them changing major literary characters of a beloved novel you enjoy. It’s also not racist to boycott said “adaptation” if it’s not staying true to the source material. People are tired of DEI nonsense

@fandompulse Alhough I understand why people are upset (and I too would have preferred Snape to be cast according to the books), it comes to a point where the complaints do come across as racist, because the very presence of his black face appears to cause people to froth in disgust.

Podcaster Matt Jarbo claims HBO is trying to get ahead of Black Snape controversy: "You can almost guarantee that the producers of Harry Potter are now desperate to get out ahead of the Snape controversy. The memes are running rampant, and they are breaching the mainstream and in a way that is going to control the narrative. The only way to settle it right now would be to show how good of an actor he is and hope that it wins people over. Because if we have to wait until Christmas to see in action, the memes will grow and grow and grow and grow and the television adaptation of Harry Potter will turn into a real life version of Sisyphus." Is it already too late? Is this show the next Snow White movie?

Yeah, not going to happen, it doesn't fucking matter if he's a good actor or not, he looks NOTHING like the character! The smart decision would be to realize how massive this show could be, delay it for 2 years and recast Black Snape but we know America's dumbest company Warner Brothers won't do this and instead this will end up like Rings of Power, what a shame.

@tdwight122 @AndrewPorter663 @fandompulse It’s purposeful. They’re making it the George Floyd ‘misunderstood’ I can’t breathe, black saviour. The black dude who everyone is super racist and stereotypes the entire time ends up being the good guy who saves everyone. They’re 💯 doing it to purposefully make it racial

@fandompulse He could be the best actor in the world. It doesn’t matter. He’s not Snape. He’ll never be Snape. He’ll always be black Snape. It will always be a joke.

George R.R. Martin explains how his Game of Thrones characters wielding power badly is his answer to Tolkien: "Ruling is hard. This was maybe my answer to Tolkien, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles? Real-life kings had real-life problems to deal with. Just being a good guy was not the answer. You had to make hard, hard decisions. Sometimes what seemed to be a good decision turned around and bit you in the ass; it was the law of unintended consequences. I’ve tried to get at some of these in my books. My people who are trying to rule don’t have an easy time of it. Just having good intentions doesn’t make you a wise king." What do you think Tolkien would have thought about such comments?

HBO's Harry Potter casting director Lucy Bevan describes Hermoine: "Hermione, lack of filter from being an only child. Her superpower is her emotional intelligence. She's got main-character energy." What are your expectations for her role in the series?

@CalvinV42 @MasteroftheTDS Foundational changing one of the main characters and injecting racial undertones into his backstory (or else having to completely redo it) already makes it less accurate than the movies were to the source material. So wrong again.

Not the right casting for Snape, and anyone trying to justify it is being deliberately ignorant. This changes the lore no matter what. Either they add racial connotations to scenes that never had them before, or they have to start rewriting and reshaping those scenes just to avoid the implications. So much for making this show more faithful to the books.

@HorySmokes @Nerdrotics Rings of Power is the number one watched show on Amazon. Even season two, which I will say actually was a big improvement from season one.

@Nerdrotics This will be a Rings of Power situation where S1 might get half decent ratings but the show will then lumber on like a zombie with poor ratings to save face.

@HorySmokes @Nerdrotics Rings of Power at least isn’t a redo story. And also they were contractually fully committed to 5 seasons right off the bat no matter what, otherwise they have to pay out $20 million per season they bail out of. That was licensing rights agreement
