What sounds more interesting: a comprehensive introduction to linguistics for regular people, or a language learning accelerator using scientific best practices and cutting edge tech (AI, LLMs, etc.)?

A few minutes after telling people they're probably incapable of interpreting a rap song, "doctor" @languagejones fails to correctly interpret a rap song. I don't know how academia will ever dig itself out of its credibility crisis.

@a66mike99 @aakashgupta I’m increasingly skeptical of duolingo, but I’m even more skeptical of ChatGPT, especially for a language like Hebrew. I’d love to see actual output from this, or OP, you know, speaking fluent Hebrew

DUOLINGO COULDN'T TEACH ME HEBREW IN 2 YEARS ChatGPT did it in just 3 months. Here's the exact 8 Prompts I used:

For those of mature years: I researched the meaning of this, and it's a counter-word, like "Where's the beef?" was in the '80s and "23 skidoo!" was in the 1910s.

@fydbak I use “clearly” in at least two different places. Both of which are in describing specific phenomena that, indeed, are clear, and which in the aggregate inform my professional opinion.

@languagejones Can you help me rectify your first statement, “It is my professional opinion…”, with your later declaration “…it is clearly…”?
