It’s weird how rarely you hear what it actually feels like to be a Dad. This answer to ‘who are you jealous of?’ from Bob Odenkirk had me blaming dust & onions.

What game would you instantly buy if it got remastered and the gameplay was updated?

Your regular reminder that, had the world followed France and built nuclear reactors half a century ago, there would now be no rows about decarbonisation, no IPCC, no Greta Thunberg marches. The whole problem was created by the green movement.

@malcolm_stack Andrew Field's 'Prelude to Waterloo: Quatre Bras' gives a good French perspective on things. Mike Robinson wrote a book on Quatre Bras a few years back too. And volume 1 of John Hussey's campaign history is good, although it is an account of the wider campaign as well.

Ever wondered what the march from Brussels to Quatre Bras was like for British soldiers at the start of the Waterloo campaign? Last week I decided to don my walking boots and backpack to find out. 1/

@Knog No replies from them. One reason you may not have received my emails is because it’s so difficult to find an address. What’s the email?

Why @Knog can I not access my account, not reset my password, not get a reply to my emails? I just want to be able to work my Scout.

On this day in 1915, Katherine Mansfield wrote these two sentences in a short letter to her brother, Leslie, who was serving with the British Expeditionary Force in France. Sadly, this would be the last time she wrote to him; Leslie was killed two months later.

It’s interesting how both the US right and left use Britain as a foil to assert their own culture’s superiority. To the U.S. left, Britain is a reactionary backwater that’s not enlightened like they are. To the U.S. right, Britain is basically North Korea, but under sharia law.

NEW: I’m not sure people fully appreciate how dire the US life expectancy / mortality situation has got. My column: enterprise-sharing.ft.com/redeem/75e5e3d… And some utterly damning charts. 1) at *every* point on the income distribution, Americans live shorter lives than the English.

@helenlewis I am a dual national, and I remember when I finally understood that for many Americans, both left and right, Britain is still the former colonial ‘parent’ that they define themselves against. Because the US is rich, we forget that it has its own post-colonial element.

A man just described my trike as a "lazy bike". I've cycled 60km today. The furthest since being hit by a car in 2017, and also whilst I'm still recovering from a chronic infection caused by my feeding tube. Wonder what he's done today..
