@mattsasylum I think the ending was decent but of course we all had grand ideas that were not lived up to. Its all very "just listen to the song" of him so I'm not really upset, just unfulfilled on what I hoped for the main ideas and themes of part 2

@monosou_ I hate not liking how the ending was done because I've been singing the praises of the chainsaw man church arc and it's conclusion for years now, I'm totally on board for what part 2 was trying to say with it I just don't think it was well done in the end

Also like how he steps on a crow here, which is later directly linked to Asa and Yoru. Denji is stepping on them (read: Asa) in order to fulfill his selfishness to be chainsaw man. He notices it too, and he probably cares, but he can't go back and he can't undo what he did to her

Tbh I'm still confused on the timeline. Pochita doesn't erase past events, so... everything happened? But there's fatal differences that would mean nothing happened. Is it basically if you took the current characters and their lives, erased their memories, and put them in an AU??

@feandante I agree with that being the basis of it. I'm just also confused at how he somehow managed to merge certain events? Like did Denji live longer, or is Asa a year younger? Does the early chapters of part 2 actually happen at the same time as part 1?? Its all me nitpicking lol

Oh so by the end of p1, Denji realises Makima never saw him beyond the devil in him, ‘chainsaw man’.
While by the end of p2, it is reframed.
Asa looks him in the eye and thanks him as ‘chainsaw man’, the human without superpowers because she simply sees the weapon & he did good.

@kod4kmoment Nope. I expect that from Denji, and I love his characterization. My problem is how often the fandom read his behavior as somehow romantic or a sign of betterment? The manga is very in character for both Asa and Denji, I just don't think its romantic.

@monosou_ Denji was a guy with no home training, formal education, or any semblance of positive reinforcements aside from Pochita, who was content with a dehumanized stature. Should we have been surprised that he turned out to be reductive and dependent on instant gratification?

#tbh I don't care about that, I'm mad that the fandom saw what denji did, encouraged it, and then excused his actions. Denji as a character is flawed and did not "win" nor was he rewarded. The fandom rewarded him by in fanon giving him ownership of the girl

@dumbbutbadass I agree with this. The "saving" Asa does is before this point, in both mainline part 2 and this chapter. Its her deciding to live differently! Denji has nothing to do with that decision in either

@monosou_ Idk man she does save herself. Her bigges issue was always loneliness and an inability to connect with others. She decided to play and take that first step by herself.
I think Denji's hand is just an aid, just like you hold a baby's hand when they are learning to walk.

I know a lot of people are complaining about Asa not saving herself and I get it but... the point was it was never Asa's fault. She never had to save herself. This page feels representative of the truth that Asa's life actively got worse being around Denji/CSM lmfao

@monosou_ well i think the fact that makima specifically uses denji's sex drive and strong urge for intimacy as a way to control him is not only accurate to SA but fits the rest of the narrative. part 2 focuses less on it but generally chainsaw mans theming is around control

@Squidy40 In the ideal world, yes we want Denji to be mature enough to realize that he is stuck in a negative reaction loop. But he... can't. Because of a long history of abuse that pretty much boils down to people doing what they want to him because of who they want him to be.

@Squidy40 Because of this. Denji had turned being CSM into his "dream", his reason for living. He was never going to give it up, even though it was to his detriment. Fujimoto said that since denji hadn't stopped being a hero, he had to write part 2

@monosou_ she also got that complex from becoming a red chainsaw fan, which death then made worse by having her join the church to 'repay' csm, and being one of the few who knew the 'truth' of the church

Well, Asa never actually got over that guilt? She was worse off at that moment with Denji than at the beginning of part 2. Her being saved from tripping means that she can continue hoping for a normal highschool life, like her dialogue at the beginning of part 2.
