Earlier today, Speaker @JoeShekarchi and Rep. Scott Slater joined entrepreneur and businesswoman @carolyn Rafaelian her donation of the historic @TempleBethEl property on Broad Street in Providence to @CSEARI. The National Register of Historic Places building has been vacant since 2006 when the synagogue was officially closed. The long-vacant property will now be transformed by the Center for Southeast Asians into a new community center serving the residents of the greater Providence region. “Carolyn’s legacy of charitable giving is legendary,” said Speaker Shekarchi. “This is yet another wonderful and meaningful example of her generosity and commitment to Rhode Island. Rabbi Sarah Mack of @TempleBethEl shared the congregation's history of being founded by families who came to RI fleeing persecution in other parts of the world. Then, @CSEARI ED Channavy Chhay shared her own story of coming here to escape violence & hardships.
