@jpwarchaeology @DarkDancer72 @MimikWolf So the current owners claim it's been a pub since 1320. I live round the corner so might ask them what evidence they have for that. Everyone around here just tends to take that at face value. Where did you find the source for it being a house until the 17th century?

There are many claims for the oldest pub in Britain. The most famous is the Trip to Jerusalem at Nottingham: reputedly opened 1189, but this was invented in 1909 by the landlord. In reality its a 17thC building that was used as a pub by 1751. So which is the oldest? ...a thread🧵
