@EwanJM Fair points, Ewan. But Sky could waive their right to the 33 weekend stipulation for Boxing Day.

Bit more to it than that. UEFA expansion means less midweek flexibility. FA Cup ‘exclusive’ weekends. Premier League broadcast agreement obligated to at least 33 weekends, moving all to #BoxingDay drops them under that threshold.

Heading off to Stockport-Lincoln City today. Feel lucky that my club has a game on Boxing Day. The way the top flight Boxing Day programme has been decimated by Sky is an insult to fans everywhere.

@henrywinter I had a few thoughts Henry - what's stopping top cappers cashing in on the resale markets of a couple games to pay for their trips? For the Euros they had spot checks for ESTC tickets to stop people touting them, but given the circumstances, can/should they do this for the WC?!

"Which side are you on?" The England fan who emailed the FA hierarchy protesting about World Cup ticket prices, and got plenty of coverage in the media and support from other fans, has challenged the FA again. He’s a long-standing England Supporters Travel Club member and his email reflects views of many angry England fans. It reads.... “Nearly 48hrs on from my email, and nearly 5 days on from the fan-mocking pricing being released, we are yet to hear from you. During that period of continued silence, the outrage remains high and very public. You will have received emails along the same lines from other fans, communicating anger which we are ensuring is recognised by the media. “Your silence, and the longer it continues, can only be increasingly regarded as a dismissal of fans’ concerns, threatening to not only create a permanent rupture between the fans and the organisation charged with protecting the game here in England, but also risking toxicity seeping into the relationship between fans and the England squad itself. “Perhaps we are all going to be amazed later this week when Debbie (Hewitt), in her capacity as FIFA VP, delivers a stunning ultimatum to FIFA that meets the moment and damage caused by FIFA’s pricing? We do not hold our breath. “What has become clear is that the roles of FA Chairperson and FIFA VP, being held by the same person, are no longer compatible with each other. Whilst you might argue that it is better to have a foot inside the FIFA leadership tent, as it were, this is outweighed by being complicit in FIFA’s full-on financial assault against fans, demonstrated by continued silence. “It’s time to make a stand. As I said in my previous email, fans fuel the game in many ways. Teams would cease to exist without the outlay on tickets, merchandise and subscriptions. However, those who take that dedication for granted do so at their peril - it is not dedication without limits. “Ahead of awaiting, perhaps pointlessly, a response to this latest email, I ask you one final question: Which side are you on?” @NoContextESTCFB #ENG

✍️ First piece up for @TheAthletic who I’ll be working for across the Ashes. Went to Ben Stokes’ first club in Christchurch and spoke to his childhood coaches about his time in NZ. He was very good at cricket, and not always the best behaved. nytimes.com/athletic/67875…

Sitting at Gatwick Airport about to head back to NYC, and still struggling to put into words the emotions of the last 24 hours. Palace, our Palace, won the cup. Still feel like I could burst into tears at any moment. Those scenes at FT will live with me forever… special memories that so many will never understand. All the miles we’ve travelled over the years. Away trips in the Championship on icy Tuesday nights, Hillsborough in May 2010, Lloyds Bank a month later on the brink of extinction, the Wembley heartbreak in 2016. And now we’ve won a trophy. We did it, we actually did it!! Roll on the European tour ❤️💙 #CPFC

@CPFC_Cal Guehi was good but it was clear that Palmer was told to come inside to provide space for Walker to keep width. Palmer also created best chance for Kane…

Wait a second, what? Guehi was genuinely really good? Crisp with his passing between the lines and switching the play, won the majority of his aerial duels and make two crucial blocks Palmer, meanwhile, refused to hold the width and floated about doing fuck all (again)

Player ratings from England’s defeat to Iceland. Not a great night for Mainoo, Foden and Guehi. Palmer the bright spark theguardian.com/football/artic…

@ReubenPinder Agree, but he loves him for some reason. Most like Stones in terms of playing out

@ReubenPinder He can do that job next to Rice. Would love to see Wharton in some games though. However I am biased on Wharton too - backed him at 6s to make the plane.

@robbaney Unfortunately I don’t think there’s space, but he can be a really effective impact sub

Acknowledging my bias, he’s surely played himself onto the plane. None of our other midfielders pass through the lines like him

@robbaney Him or Mainoo to start next to Rice I think. Gallagher did well tonight but is much more effective in advanced areas
