At my wits end trying to think of an appetizer. One person cannot have beef, pork, onion or garlic. Another can’t have cheese or any dairy unless it’s lactose free. We can’t do cashews or sesame or most tree nuts. Suggestions?

@engineering_bae I might travel longer at the holidays because I remote work and can fly 3 days early for a cheaper fare, but I am taking that time off because I don’t go see my family to hide from them when not at dinner.

People often discourage me from taking PTO around the holiday since I work remote. Reminding me most people are gone so they’re easy days. But I truly enjoy not having to think about work while I’m traveling and/or with my family. Yes, things are slower at work, but that just means less stuff for me to catch up on when I get back 🙌🏾😂

@Amanda_Jodeh @glosswitch There are placebo trials for vaccines. My son was in the Covid vaccine trial as a baby. He got the placebo, his cousin did not.

@glosswitch What gets me is that we can't have placebo trials for vaccines because it's "unethical." Meanwhile, it's somehow not unethical to subject children to drugs which will alter the entire course of their development.

The thing that gets me about the puberty blockers trial is what are any of the harmful side effects of puberty blockers worse than? How does the weighting of cost / benefit work when the very existence of PBs as a supposed "solution" to GD makes the experience of puberty worse? >

One of Hamas's key motivations to launch the attacks on Oct. 7 was to capture Israeli soldiers in order to free Palestinian prisoners via a swap. Israel is still imprisoning ~9,000-10,000 Palestinians. 5,000 of them are administrative detainees, i.e., hostages, held without charge or trial, and their detention is renewable indefinitely. mondoweiss.net/2025/10/palest… Israel starves, tortures & rapes Palestinian prisoners to death as matters of standard operating procedure. Israel has killed at least 75 Palestinians in Israeli detention since 7 October 2023. un.org/unispal/docume… You wonder how Israel thinks it's in its interest to sadistically torture so many Palestinian prisoners knowing what led to Oct. 7 in the first place. They are creating conditions for their own destruction.

Shadi Abu Sido, a Palestinian photojournalist from Gaza, was arrested at Shifa hospital in March 2024 and never charged. While held at the Sde Teiman torture facility, guards told him his wife and two children had been killed in the war. He described the moment as the lowest point of his life, a psychological blow intended to break him. “I got hysterical,” he told reporters. “I was astonished, it cannot be explained, they were alive. Imagine amid death – life.” Abu Sido was also physically tortured. He described being severely beaten, shackled so tightly his wrists were left raw, blindfolded, and forced to kneel for long periods. These kinds of abuses have been reported by other Palestinian detainees, especially since the war in Gaza intensified in late 2023. When he was released in a ceasefire prisoner exchange, Abu Sido returned to Gaza and found his family alive—a moment he described as his soul returning to his body. This is the sort of mental and physical torture innocent Gazan hostages were subjected to.

Your VPN protects you from hackers. Unless the hackers exploit the VPN to become you. CVE-2025-9242: WatchGuard's "security" appliance had a 520-byte buffer that trusted client data like a boomer trusts email attachments. No auth needed. Python shell included. 🔓 thehackernews.com/2025/10/resear…

@EERandomness @karpathy I had to do this in India, I was a horrible experience and so wasteful of my time and money. Took weeks to manage with my work load.

@karpathy The world needs HTTPS for phone numbers. 1. Every number should require gov issued ID, in person to purchase the number and issue a cert 2. Telcos should be required to validate certs before allowing a call through 3. All calls should be traceable to a device

I get ~10 spam calls per day (various automated voicemails, "loan pre-approval" etc) and ~5 spam messages per day (usually phishing). - I have AT&T Active Armor, all of the above still slips through. - All of the above is always from new, unique numbers so blocking doesn't work. - I am on all Do Not Call lists. - I have iOS "Silence Unknown Callers" on, but even if it catches & silences them I still get the notifications. Not sure if other people are seeing something similar or figured out anything that works

Transparently, I’m just now starting to learn about tariffs and their impact on American consumers and products (since, conveniently, they don’t teach this in school). From what I’ve gathered, it seems like America has been taken advantage of by nearly everyone. We’ve been paying high tariffs for decades. Take Canada, for example. Trump didn’t start the tariff issue with them. Canada has now imposed a 25% tariff on over $20 billion worth of U.S. imports, including alcohol. Some provinces are even halting or removing American alcohol from shelves altogether. I live in Tennessee, home to amazing distilleries like Jack Daniels, Old Smoky Moonshine, etc. I know amazing people who work at these distilleries. So, here’s my question: Why not buy American? If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that the most effective way to influence change is with our wallets. Let’s ditch Canadian Crown Royal and other Canadian liquors in favor of Maker’s Mark or another American brand. That translates to whatever the product in question may be. Support AMERICAN companies.

Under Biden, inflation was at 9.1%, highest in 40 years gas at $5.02 and and food prices up 20% Every liberal says the Biden economy was the best. Zero liberals say high prices under Biden were bad. Many, like Krugman and Yellen even suggested the high prices were a sign of a “hot economy.” So which is it? Was Biden’s economy awesome or are high prices and inflation bad? You can’t have both.

A group of settlers just lynched Hamdan Ballal, co director of our film no other land. They beat him and he has injuries in his head and stomach, bleeding. Soldiers invaded the ambulance he called, and took him. No sign of him since.
