@pbwinston @AdamDasky Yeah that’s the question! It would be interesting to do some functional MRI studies to try and probe that

Has anyone seen a study about how movie resolution relates to subjective traits? As you go from 1080P to 4k to 8k, does the movie get any funnier? Any more heartwarming? More scary? How much resolution is enough to tell basically any story involving humans? @pomeranian99

@BrentToderian I wish this excellent discussion was encapsulated in a linkable article. I’d like people to see it but many of my friends won’t touch Twitter with a 3-meter pole any more.

THREAD: I’m going to try this thread to clearly state my perspective on electric vehicles, car dependency and better cities, to those who frequently ask me, including media, elected leaders and many others. Here goes. Please share if you think it helps. 🧵#EVS

Know that climate disasters this summer are only the beginning and they will get catastrophically worse until we end the fossil fuel industry. Everything humanity does depends on a livable climate. End fossil fuels rapidly and equitably. Switch into emergency mode

BNN Bloomberg: “The federal government wants one in every five new vehicles to be electric by 2026 and one in two by 2030.” Achingly unambitious. #climatechangecanada @s_guilbeault

(Why don’t they schedule the @Junos for round 3 or 4 when there are nights with no playoff games?) @cbcsports

@fordnation This is fiscal insanity! What happened to the party of balanced budgets? What are we going to cut to pay for this?

Eliminating the fees for licence plate stickers means a little more money in your pocket to help with groceries or pay bills. This is just another step we're taking to make life more affordable for all Ontarians.

@timescolonist Sadly, too true. Usability, of both hardware & software, have both fallen. Does Apple even employ UE testers any more?

The new Paris 2021-26 urban biking plan will invest €250 million to, among other things, make 52km of pandemic bike-lanes permanent; add 130km of new bike-lanes; add 130K new bike parking spots; & teach all elementary school students to bike. Leadership. paris.fr/pages/un-nouve…

@xojo That looks really useful! What is that dict format though? Similar to JSON but not, unfortunately. (I’m hoping not to reinvent the parser if unnecessary just to get a couple of field values!) Thanks for a great blog post.

@BobRae48 There is a huge difference between a secular state & individual rights. I believe that Mssr Legault knows that and should amend this law to reflect the difference. In the meantime, Québec teachers could wear hijabs but declare they are not religious garb.

Latest bag of Sun Chips was almost 10% lighter (205g vs 225g) but with a higher price! Laughs on Frito Lay though: reducing purchases by 100%. (Healthier anyway.)

With everything we know about the public value of trees, there’s absolutely no excuse for new suburban subdivisions to have barely any street and yard trees. To be clear, this is a failure of municipal governments and their tree standards/requirements. #StreetsAreBetterWithTrees
Brent Bellamy@brent_bellamy

If the value of trees is obvious why does Winnipeg have: - new neighbourhoods that look like this? - 2/3 the urban forestry budget of Toronto’s? - 40,000 vacant tree planting sites? - only 19% of our removed trees replaced each year? - a 31 year pruning cycle when the goal is 7?

@Chris_Bittle @GeraldKutney “Promising” to do something in 30 years is NOT a promise kept. Ongoing climate change requires real action, now. Quit ignoring the tarry sandy elephant in the room!

Not one Conservative in the House or Senate voted in favour. As the climate crisis continues, Erin O'Toole's Conservatives continue to lack any ambition to tackle the crisis. Never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

The Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act has now received Royal Assent. That means net-zero emissions by 2050 is officially the law in Canada. And that Canada is one step closer to a healthier economy and environment. #PromiseMadePromiseKept

Yesterday I saw a perfectly healthy 37 yo pre covid. He contracted the illness in January. He's still on 3L of oxygen at all times and not improving. But, you know, keep quoting death and survival rates only.
