@prosperousguy @BrandonRigo Hasn't one been able to learn on the internet or books forever? If they have no MOAT due to this/AI wouldn't this have been a bear thesis from day one and they would in turn have had no success in user acquisition? Genuinely curious thanks!

Been saying $DUOL is a POS stock for months. They have NO moat around "learning languages" and Universal translators make learning a new language MOOT No need when you can talk into a device and it does the translation for you. x.com/prosperousguy/… More recently: x.com/prosperousguy/…

First, thanks @moneyflowinvest for your long bear thesis on $DUOL. I have to say that, in my opinon, there are some significant first-principles flaws in your reasoning. 1.- "This bet ignores the looming threat of improving 'Zero-Shot' capabilities and human-like sample efficiency, which threaten to render Duolingo's data-driven teaching moat obsolete by making linguistic expertise accessible to any competitor." You say input is king. That is wrong, especially for language learning. Any poliglot will stress output. Without output, input is almost irrelevant. Luis knows that, and that's why the new metric 'words spoken per Max subscriber' is key. It measures output, high cognitive workload output. You didn't even mention this metric, but it is extremely key to the thesis, since it will boost student outcomes. 2.- "the vast majority of even the 'elite' user base engages at levels that merely match the average daily usage of platforms like TikTok (58 minutes) or YouTube (48 minutes). This reveals a dual failure in the product’s promise: it is neither gamified enough to compete with social media for attention, nor effective enough educationally to justify high engagement for the masses." Nobody learning a language should spend too much time within the method itself (inside the app); instead, they should practice outside. For example, input should come from Google, Netflix, reading, listening to songs, podcasts, and newspapers. There should also be a lot of output: talking alone, talking to whomever, shadowing, and writing. It has always been like this. Learning a language effectively requires exactly that. I will be more than happy to discuss these points and any others in your long thesis.

@jcapitalgrowth In terms of stock price really don’t see this thing doing anything until we get that uptick in DAU growth probably back half 26 to beginning 27 which I’m totally fine with. Would definitely like to see some additional course rollout they’ve mentioned also

@AecInvests My cost basis on $DUOL is $300. It's common for any growth stock to be down 50%. Wallstreet hates that CEO isnt maxing monetization. Look at how fast their chess vertical scaled, relative to chess.com. Now ask yourself how AI can help them attack other verticals

If you haven't trained yourself to salivate when stock prices are this depressed - it's 100% skill issue. There are some excellent dips right now....3 that I think are very good buys are $SOFI, $HIMS and $DUOL All profitable, all growing and all have nothing to do with Iran..

@jcapitalgrowth In terms of data points was using Claude earlier and got some interesting points of nice growth in app downloads during January and February. Seems ab testing could be working nicely.

@EquityBrian Very different use cases, ones desire for learning will not disappear with a useful translation tool. Sure someone that doesn't have this desire would love this, but wanting to learn a language doesn't go away just because you can translate what someone else is saying.
